I remember hearing somewhere that it used to be common to give Guinness like this in hospitals to replace lost iron or something like that. Probably related to the "Guinness is good for you" ad campaign too.
Scoby 0 #43 June 12, 2002 QuoteI remember hearing somewhere that it used to be common to give Guinness like this in hospitals to replace lost iron or something like that. I don't know if that was ever practiced outside of Ireland, or if there's any real reason to it, but my mother likes to tell the tale. I started finishing my dad's pints at the pub when I was quite young. To me, it is the most drinkable beer. I don't understand how Americans think of it as heavy. Vallerina 2 #44 June 12, 2002 My absolute favorite beer is this wonderful stuff called FREE! Mmm....free beer. But, if I had to pick and choose from free beer, I like Bud Light, Corona, and a new favorite discovered just a couple of weeks ago...Amber Bock. I spent four years prostrate to the higher mind; got my paper, and I was free
