gianquittia 0 #1 October 4, 2013 Hi, I just got new upt risers and the louie loop is on the front part (outside) of the front riser. It makes it awkward to grab it to dive the canopy. Is this correct? My old risers the dive loops were on the inside (closer to me) of the front riser. Thanks.Be Happy!
riggerrob 643 #2 October 4, 2013 Did you ask Louie? I think he works at United Parachute Technologies ... The Un-Insured Relative Work Shop ... or whatever they call themselves this week????
Martin86 0 #3 October 4, 2013 That doesn't sound right. I have 3 sets of UPT risers with Louie Loops. All of them with the grips on the back of the front risers. Mine are from 2012, so unless they've changed it, it should be the same. Maybe post a Picture?
mxk 1 #4 December 20, 2014 I just got a new Vector3. Type 8 risers with Louie loops. The loops are on the front side of the front risers: [inline louie_loop.jpg] Design change? UPT are closed until the 5th of January, so no one to ask there.
gowlerk 2,190 #5 December 20, 2014 Design change, or new person on the production line making an error that's too subtle to be noticed on inspection? Please do let us know. If it is a new design I don't want it.Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.
Hellis 0 #6 December 20, 2014 I'm quite sure it's a production error because how are you supposed to attach the lines? Normally you have to shape the riser smaler to fit both the riser and lines. Now you add another layer of webbing in between. And each time you pull the front risers they will rubb on the softlinks.
justme12001 0 #7 December 20, 2014 I am pretty sure that part of it is correct, but the loop is supposed to be bigger on the back side not the front side.

councilman24 37 #10 December 21, 2014 Here is the link to the UPT web page. http://www.unitedparachutetechnologies.com/index.php/og/item/rasta-rig But 'loop' works in either position. As on website you grab the loop, as in photo above you grab the riser. Either way the bottom of the 'loop' takes the load against the side of your hand. In the old days I've seen regular dive loops on the front again with the intent to grab the riser and still keep your hand from sliding down. But photo and OP description is different from web page.I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
monkycndo 0 #11 December 22, 2014 Yup, picture 3 of 5 on the UTP site shows the loop on the back side of the riser.50 donations so far. Give it a try. You know you want to spank it Jump an Infinity
leon.hill 1 #12 December 22, 2014 Could it be the difference that the OP has TY8 risers? All the photos on UPTs page are with TY17…Just a thought.
mxk 1 #13 December 22, 2014 leon.hillCould it be the difference that the OP has TY8 risers? All the photos on UPTs page are with TY17…Just a thought. OP doesn't specify what risers he has and I brought this thread back from 2013. I don't see why the riser type would change the loop orientation. If this was designed so that you grab the riser rather than the loop, then type 8 actually makes it more difficult and uncomfortable to do that. It's very stiff right where your hand would go. The loop, on the other hand, is soft and would distribute the force on the fingers much better if it was on the rear of the riser. I'm leaning more toward a manufacturing error. Will contact UPT when they are back from vacation and report back.
koppel 4 #14 December 24, 2014 Pretty sure I remember I e if the PDFT talking about having theirs in This orientation back in '09 at WCI like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
mxk 1 #15 January 5, 2015 Sent UPT an email today and immediately got a reply saying that this was a mistake. They will send me a new set and I'm sending mine back.

jumpsalot-2 3 #17 January 6, 2015 I doubt that your pair was the only backwards application .... if someone was banging them out one day and was on a roll . Life is short ... jump often.

I'd doubt they make very many type 8 risers with Louie loops.Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.
