Spy38W 0 #5 June 15, 2002 Thanks all for the well wishes, but this wasn't my camera (thank goodness) I found this on rec.skydiving (what else to do on a crappy rainy Saturday). There hasn't been any information about what caused it to come off yet, but I will post it if/when it comes up.--Come to the dark side

Iflyme 0 #12 June 16, 2002 I remember last year at the Kamloops May Meet -- I think it was even the last load of the boogie, someone lost a fancypants helmet and dv camera in freefall ... but the jumper didn't have 1/2 the gear in that pix! When I landed last night, I looked down and found some goggles in the field -- with flames painted on them. Anyone missing their goggles???"There's nothing new under the sun"
Snowbird 0 #13 June 17, 2002 The picture was nasty, but the real thing was worse! This happened here. He was shooting a tandem, had a nasty opening, and the helmet kept on going. And going. And going. Scared the living s$%# out of the guy who heard it hit. I held the sad, twisted wreckage today... They salvaged the footage, and the video of the fall is rather spectacular. Snowbird 0 #15 June 17, 2002 Oh yeah John was fine, and smiling today as he popped the '$8,000 video tape' into the VCR. I don't think I'd be smiling after that.
ernokaikkonen 0 #16 June 17, 2002 >Oh yeah John was fine, and smiling today as he popped the '$8,000 video tape' into >the VCR. I don't think I'd be smiling after that. Hey... There isn't much left to do except smile at that point. Sulking won't fix the gear, and he has footage that few others have... And at least his head didn't fall off his shoulders with the cameraSo do you know how it happened? Did the helmet break, or was it incorrectly fastened? Or not tight enough?Erno
weid14 0 #17 June 17, 2002 Oour camera guy has two helmet saves to his credit. One was a few years ago, came off in freefall, gabbed it and held it in his hand and still got some footage. The second was actaully at nationals last year. Came right off on opening, he caught that one on his legs. Pretty slick (luckly for him!). they were both boneheads also, BTW. He seemed to think he didn't have the latch correctly seated. He's still glad to have that VX-2000 though!
Snowbird 0 #18 June 17, 2002 QuoteSo do you know how it happened? Did the helmet break, or was it incorrectly fastened? Or not tight enough? That I don't know. Didn't ask. We were too engrossed in watching the video.
 Join the conversation You can post now and register later.
