AiRpollUtiOn 0 #1 June 9, 2002 This evening, the Pilatus PC-6 of DZ Spa in Belgium only moments after take-off.Propably due to pilot error (flaps not raised soon enough, the same reason as the crash of a Pilatus at DZ Moorsele last year.)One American girl living in Belgium died, 11 were injured.Don't have more info.Dark clouds are hanging over skydiving in Belgium the last few weeks.I wish the 11 injured a good recovery, and blue skies to all 12 people that were in this accident. Will jump for beer, bs AiRpollUtiOn

Lindsey 0 #5 June 10, 2002 I guess I've been practicing it since I've learned to write. One of my friends once asked me if I had changed my name to Lscribblescribble, and I thought it was funny....Ya' know Smack-water Jack he bought a shotgun'cause he was in the mood for a little con-fron-ta-tion
jimmytavino 16 #6 June 10, 2002 Pilatus PC -6.... that's a Porter... we jumped one a few weeks ago at the local DZ......but we were crowded,, real crowded, with 8 jumpers......... I am not fully sure of all the details of this accident,,, but a few thoughts come to mind..How in the world do you fit a pilot AND eleven jumpers in a Porter????? Can you say "over gross?? " Can you say "C of G, aft of center???"... sorry to hear of the loss of a jumper,,, and of the injuries.... swift recovery, to those affected.
diverdriver 6 #7 June 10, 2002 I think that's speculation at this time. More info is needed. We don't know if it was a mechanical failure, pilot error, or weather related.Does anyone know if Belgium puts their transportation accidents in reports like the NTSB?Chris Schindlerhttp://www.DiverDriver.com

jumpervali 2 #9 June 10, 2002 A porter can fly at 4800 lbs gross. It is a lifting beast! They are a very tricky plane to fly, but a blast to jump. Sad regrets to all, blues folks.jumpervali
BPO 0 #10 June 10, 2002 Blue skies for the girl... and a speedy recovery for the others... this sucks..I hope the next few weeks (well.. months..) will be a lot safer...*sigh*

Remster 30 #12 June 10, 2002 Jimmy: Europeans tend to call that plane a Pilatus and North American tend to call it a Porter.... 8 jumpers is a small load for one of them (I'm 6'2" and even at 8 I find it a tight fit too...) .... 10 jumpers is typical, 11 doesnt surprise me. Please dont blame people without having the facts....RemsterMuff
AiRpollUtiOn 0 #13 June 10, 2002 Didn't find any articles, but I'm going over to my rigger later (have dive loops installed, let the front riser fun begin!) so normally I should have more info in a few hours, I'll post asap. jurgencamps 0 #15 June 13, 2002 In Belgium they do not take 11 jumpers in a Pilatus Porter, 10 is the maximum.BTW the DZ was Temploux near Namur, not SPA. In SPA they have a Cesna Caravan
AndyMan 7 #16 June 13, 2002 Quote but we were crowded,, real crowded, with 8 jumpers........Jimmy... I don't know how you loaded your porter, but I jump at Chicagoland, and jump Andre's porter - (Andre is Peter L.'s friend, and had his porter at newfane back when I was around). It has the sunset painting on the back wall.Anyways, we easily put ten in. Andre upgraded his engine to a -27 (i think...) and it climbs like you wouldn't believe. If you can fit more in, I would imagine the aerodynamics could handle it. The structurals of the airframe is another issue, but I don't think that's in question here._AmICQ: 5578907MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfeYahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
