skip 0 #1 June 11, 2002 I'm in the midst of purchasing a new used rig and neither the seller or myself have ever shipped a rig before. Does anyone have any advice concerning how to box it up, who to use as the carrier, etc. Thanks in advance. .:skip
skymama 37 #2 June 11, 2002 Well, you can see in the other thread that some of us have had success with UPS using COD, but it does take a little while to get your check once the box is delivered. I used a big ol' box, and bought the insurance for it. The total shipping cost was $34.00 to go across the country. I had the buyer pay the shipping cost, and he added it into the total price of the COD. He got his rig, I got my check, we were both happy with UPS, and you can track it on the internet too.AndreaI'm high as a kiteI just mightStop and check you out. dove 0 #3 June 11, 2002 I paid the local rigshop $20 to do it for me. They received the check from the person buying before sending it out and the buyer felt safer using a real shop to go through. Worked really well!

skybytch 273 #7 June 11, 2002 Packaging advice - Put everything in plastic bags. This will provide some protection for the gear if the box is exposed to water at any point along the way. Use a box just a bit bigger than the gear being shipped, and use "popcorn" or other lightweight packaging material to fill up any extra space (newspaper works but too much adds weight). Put extra pieces of cardboard between the gear and any areas that might be cut when the box is being opened (ie one along the bottom "seam" and one on top of the gear/packaging material below the top "seam").Regardless of which shipper you use - INSURE IT FOR FULL REPLACEMENT VALUE! Worth every penny if anything happens to it along the way... fyi UPS and FedEx insurance pay relatively quickly; US Mail's insurance can take up to a year to get the money.pull & flare, lisa"Try not.
