Weekend numbers

Recommended Posts

3 photos taken:2:4
Firsts:
1. First time at Sky Knights.
2. First time on a throwout PC.
3. First jump on semi-elliptical (Sabre2 170 @ 1.1:1)
4. First time starting the weekend numbers thread. :P
Sky Knights was a blast. I was worried that I would have a hard time being an unlicensed jumper from another DZ, but they were great and got me all set up. Did a nice evaluation jump then a fun two-way that didn't exactly work out as planned. I like using the throwout (I lost 4 ripcords in 26 jumps). The Sabre2 was a hell of a lot of fun. I put my feet down during the plane-out on my first jump and took a nice fall. The second landing was way better, I got a good plane-out then shut it down for a stand up.
Wrap up: Sky Knights = good. I will return. Sabre2 = fun. Throwout = cheaper than ripcords.
Weekend numbers are: humps:jumps:beer owed.

Dude... if you're gonna drive that far, drop by hinckley some time. Most of the staff are ex-sky knights.... and they left for a reason!

I'm actually a lot closer to East Troy than I am to Hinckley. I have no intention of becoming a member and getting involved in the DZ politics, which is where I hear most of the problems are. As it stands, I am happy with the dropzone and plan on going back.

I thought you were in Urbana...? Or was that just for school?
Keep in mind, 9 minute planes are nice.

Much rain in N. Cent. Fl this weekend and many clouds. We're really not complaining, because we need the rain. Do NOT want a repeat of the summer of '98. Course it would be nicer if we got the stuff during the freaking week!

Damn if the winds didn't pick up at 9:30 so they day was done by then. I had to go pickup the neighbor(Mr.Thump) from the airport. Damn if the guy wasnt there like he said.GRRRRRRRRR I waited for an hour and began the trek home, and yea the phone rings 1/2 way there......
I turn around to retreive him , and upon catching up with him I find he is cussing on the phone in a mixture of German/English and Flemmish.....I hear lost luggage......budy pass......purchased ticket......I figure this is NOT good. I don't say a word.......I get in the car and the guy actually gets a wee bit short with me, so I turn to him and say...."Geez welcome back and........just so you know.you really look like shit!" LMAO It was so random.....but he got the messege. He is real lucky his day didn't get worse, cause I had half a mind to leave him there for all the nights his music has kept me awake!.........I should be from Iowa. Can y'all say sushi?
Cheers

OK, now it's Sunday. The weekend is waning. ;)
27 taunts from IMGR2 about being a bitch online but shy in real life:2:0
My cover's blown. Oh well. I should have known this would happen once I started meeting more dz.commers. Sometimes Angry Jess takes over Quiet Jess, though -- I gave Bryan the finger today, which is like Clark Kent crumbling a brick right in front of Lois Lane.
Two hop 'n pops today. On the first, I had to get out at 7K with the CReW jumpers. I took a delay down to 4, and my hair was FUCKED. No helmet. That was some badass CReW, too. They took a downplane down to about 300, I think. Wheee!
On the second, I did a clear and pull from 5.5K, which was, in retrospect, waaaaaay too high to be pulling. I just really wanted to open subterminal, 'cause it's been a long time since I did that.
Anyway, I was under canopy for 9 million years. A storm moved in, and my poor canopy was bucking like hell in those squirrelly winds. Then it started raining. D'oh!
I finally got down, and my canopy was jerking in random directions right up until the end. The people who went all the way up were starting to land at the same time I did.
Anyway, I ran into the packing room and beat the rain, which really started to pound! Pretty soon, there were some pissed-off, welt-covered freeflyers coming in. :( And the camera guys were worried about their equipment. Sigh.
Here's the good news, though: Not to jump the gun or anything, but it looks like I've finally learned to land. I stood both up today. :)

Wait 'till we post the pics of Rachill's 500th. :D Trent was gonna spock her and then backed off when he thought "What if my hand gets tangled in that hair?" :o
Me? 2:10:2
Most of that was doing freefly laeague stuff. I'm on two teams and so I was jumping my butt off, but learning a heckuva lot.
Rachill & I did a head-down proximity exercise that really helped us both out a lot. We actually flew to each other within docking range so that's a first. Later in the weekend I managed a solid dock with Ramon, so that's the other (somewhat related) first.
Whee!

(modes of transport I've broken this week) 2:0:0
I spent saturday car shopping.... No purchases yet.
Today I dug out my bike, and went for a bit of a treck. I discovered a cute little bistro in a lush garden hidden at the side of the chicago river downtown. I had no idea it was there. I had a small lunch of wine and cheese... it was too easy sitting in this garden oasis watching the boats go by to imagine myself on the banks of the seine in france. It brought back some fond memories.
Anyways, I got back on my bike, did a few more miles before my pedals fell off. Literally. Not knowing where any bike shops were nearby, and failing to find any by-standers with a spare wrench, i walked my bike home. it was a LONG walk, but I did walk through some of Chicago's neater neighborhoods.
A good weekend, despite the lack of jumping.

4 (number of hours I slept this weekend) : 6 : 2
Ah what a weekend, drove 2 hours hoping to get 3-5 loads minumum on Friday, and only managed to get on one load to 8k becuase thunderstorms moved in..
Did a free low lob on Saturday because we were training a new pilot, then did a jump from 10k, pulled at 9 under a Cobalt demo. :)Sunday I did another free jump in to start the morning, then jumped a friends Diablo so she could try the Cobalt. Almost chopped it because the slider knocked one of the toggles out and it went into a fast spin and I couldn't get the other toggle out :o Finally got the other toggle out and managed to get my *beer* barrel roll under canopy. Then did a 4-way, was going to turn the first point on the hill but one person didn't let go of me :( so it didn't work. Then I almost forgot not to grab the risers on opening :$.
Sigh, a slow weekend from FL summer weather, but still pretty good. Other beer was for jumping without goggles.

53 -> The $$$ I spent at the tunnel cause something got screwed up in the pipe works and my ticket couldnt be found (although they found my time on the books and proof it had been paid for... geesh. but i drove all the way from Daytona beach to Orlando and I wanted to jump the next day...)
Weather as many have mentioned in central Fl, was crap sat morning. So the DZ closed doors early, about an hour or 2 before it became beautiful. But I did manage to finish 5 and 6 today. One more jump and Im off the Hook. Woohoo. ;) ;) ;)
So im off. Blue Skies. Derek

Leaving the plane without them? As opposed to taking them off in freefall?

Taking them off that one time was much better than with them on because of the way the foam was directing jets of air into my eyeballs causing them to water to the point of blindedness. Wish I had a camera for that jump to see the look on you and SS's faces.. :)And yes, left the plane without them 4 times this weekend. I really need to find a comfortable set that last a bit longer.
