Derekbox 0 #1 May 30, 2002 Ummm, I know Im new to this board and all, but I guess no one else has seen/posted this yet so I will.A friend of mine just sent me this link: http://www.blincmagazine.com/forum/board/3782.html Being a some what of a skeptic I looked into it and found this: http://www.icflorida.com/partners/wftv/news/story3.html So I guess, its true. We just lost another brother and friend. Lee (Skypunk) was one of my jumpmasters here at Deland, I just jumped with him yesterday doing my Level 2. I just met him about a week ago when I did my level 1, and in that short time since, I made my first friend in the sport, I even requested him for my level 2. He was a great guy, and I know we will all miss him. I guess I will have to wait till the flipside to see yo again bro. 10-4. BlueSkies Lee. See you all out at the DZ this weekend, I dont know about you, but I am going to find my boy skypunk up there. Thanks for your time DZ peeps. Be safe, and never forget your friends.->"Will work for jumps"->Daytona Beach Fl ->DZ: Deland->AIM: Derekbox

Derekbox 0 #6 May 31, 2002 I left work early cause I couldnt concentrate (geesh I wonder why).... On my way home, I was thinking about a few things, one of the things that struck me, was that he was the first person to befriend me, he treated me like a brother from the first time i met him. yeah not to mention everysecond I have spent in freefall he was there with me. I barely knew him but he touched me. I will never forget him.->"Will work for jumps"->Daytona Beach Fl ->DZ: Deland->AIM: Derekbox
wildblue 7 #7 May 31, 2002 Story This was from a few years ago.I like the line: His only comment Friday night when asked why he jumped off: “It's what I do.” Blue skies....Dogs don't know it's not bacon!
Rdutch 0 #8 May 31, 2002 Lee was one of the best people I knew. Very dynamic and free spirited. And most of all a very dear friend. He's with the skycarions now. Its a story he used to tell about spirits that wanted you to fly with them all the time not just for freefall and when your ready they take you to fly and be one of them.He will be missed by allHook low Flare late
skymama 37 #9 May 31, 2002 http://orlandosentinel.com/news/local/orl-asecmbasejump31053102may31.story?coll=orl-home-headlinesThere's the Orlando Sentinel article. When I first met Lee, he was a little scary looking...red mohawk, "Sky Punk" tattooed along his shoulders, and flaming tats on his calves that crossed over on the tops of his feet! Wow, I thought, not the kind of guy for me. But, looks are deceiving. I soon found out that Lee was just a crazy, wonderful nut! He had an infectous smile, and a wicked sense of humor. He truly lived life to it's fullest. Sometimes the things he said made our jaws drop, but we knew there was no malice intended, it was just Lee's smart-ass mouth. Lee was friendly to anyone who stepped foot in Deland. He was one of the guys I looked forward to hanging around with, because if Lee was around, there would be fun.The last time I saw him was Monday, at the water jumps we had for Mad Dog. He was one of the river jumpers, and when he came down, you saw that he had on swim fins, a snorkel and a mask! Then we all went to our river hang out, and Lee was determined to learn to slalom ski. He must have tried 15 times to get up....and he finally did and he was so stoked. The smile on his face showed it all.We had a nice dinner last night in Lee's honor, but tonight there will be a party at the dz for him. He often said he wanted a big party when he left us. We'll try to do him proud. One of the other trainers, Ilene, put Lee's life in a nice perspective for me when she saw that I was upset. She said that she believes that everyone comes into life with a certain amount of energy. Lee loved life so much, that he just happened to use his energy up a little sooner than most people do. But, we know he was happy while he was here.We love you and miss you, Lee. Blue Skies forever, baby!AndreaI'm high as a kiteI just mightStop and check you out. Cacophony 0 #14 June 3, 2002 Contrary to popular belief, Punk was one of the safest skydivers I knew. He was always looking out for everyone else. He was never really reckless towards himself, he just always tried new things that went against the norm. in skydiving. I remember when I hard a collision in freefall. He wouldn't let me jump again until he shook me really hard to see if I was still hurt. He was such a great friend. I regret not hanging out with him more away from the DZ. He only lived 6-7 miles from me. Anyways, what I am trying to say is pretty much what everyone else has already said. Goodbye Punk. By the way, the service is going to be private, and I'm 99% positive that either this weekend or next weekend his ashes will be spread in the air at Skydive Greensburg in Indiana. Thats it.
