Accident at Atlanta Skydive Center

Recommended Posts

This is unbelievable. In one week we've had:
* 2 fatalities :(
* 2 femurs (One at CK, one in Eloy)
* 1 critically injured at CK
* 1 jumper in Missouri who 'spiraled in and busted himself up'
* another unknown from Atlanta Skydiving Center.
Something in the air? I doubt it.
Be careful everyone. Noone needs to lose anymore friends this week. :(

Make that 3 femurs - 1 at Orange, VA.

Is a femur bust all that happened to the guy they CareFlighted out of Eloy this weekend? There were 2 bad landings out there, one was bad, the other was well, not good, but not as bad. Anyone know?

I saw:
A student doing a PRCP, cut away his main. Grabbed the wrong red thing. His RSL worked.
A student who didn't like what he saw, cut away his main. Not sure what he didn't like afterwards.
A student, who knew what he was doing the whole time, turn a five second delay into a twentyish second delay because he wasn't stable, yet.
Me pull lower than normal (still legal, but...) after an RW jump which didn't break where briefed and still looking down at someone deploying. I don't think he was legal.
The weekend could have been worse. Some people had better luck than others. Hope they know they might not always have that luck.

I am sorry to report that experienced skydiver Tony Weber, died Memorial
Day weekend from injuries sustained from a hard landing at Cedartown GA.,
Skydive Atlanta.
During a holiday road trip with friends, to celebrate college graduation,
Tony made a hard landing under a relatively new Vengence 150, at the
Cedartown GA dropzone. He was airlifted off the DZ and died of his injuries
4 hours later.
Tony was a regular jumper at SEMO Skydiving. He was the president of the
SIU Skydiving Club. He was a great role model for the new jumpers, and a
positive influence on skydiving in general. He was working on his
instructional rating and would have been an asset to our club, or any
skydiving operation. He was a really good guy.
His parents moniter the NG if you would like to make a positive comment. I
have the address of his parents if anyone would like to send a card.
We are all saddened by his loss, and will miss him. He died doing what he
loved best...skydiving.
Paul Gholson SEMO Skydiving D-17101 instructor

My deepest condolences to Tony's family and friends.
Blue Skies,
D

It's been a really bad couple months:
"Tuesday, 4/23/02, 5:54 PM: Andy hooked it into the ground at Clewiston on Saturday and is severly hurt. He smashed into the gound so hard that it blew one of his eyes out. He broke tib-fib, BOTH browns, smacks and C1 in his neck. His recovery is going to be long and painful. Hook turns are cool, fast and fun, but also dangerous. Learn slow, be careful, have fun. Jim"
Please be careful.

This is a thread from Weber...How do you want to go
I don't wanna go...I just wanna live man.

Oh god. Reading that just tore my heart out and sent chills out to my whole body. I really expected it to say something about going out while skydiving.
This sucks.
Blue skies Tony.
Blue Skies,
D

God we were talking this weekend how the dz.com family has been fortunate not to have something like this happen yet since we're pretty big now, and it happens.

Yeah, I was thinking about that myself.
Weber, blue skies. You will be missed.

What? I was at Orange for most of this 3 day weekend and the whole DZ is pretty good about email communication so I am a little surprised to hear this. Who broke their femur at Orange??
Could you clear up the confusion? Orange regulars were hurt at X-Keys but I don't think there were any serious injuries at Orange this weekend. I could be mistaken so if you know something I don't please post it on the forum.
