kmcguffee 0 #52 May 28, 2002 :0:0 Not a bad weekend. I was in Halojmpr's wedding, planted a vegetable garden for my wife, made homemade icecream, and grilled baby back ribs with my special sauce for the family. I packed my parachute just so I could say I did something skydiving related this weekend."Some cause happiness wherever they go; others, whenever they go." I filmed 4 way scrambles on Sunday, lurked my Mom's tandem with Jessica and had a kickin sitfly night jump. Glided over the strobe in the peas at about 4 feet and stood it up.... Watched a raft dive blow apart from the ground, saw 2 broken connector Links on lines. Both people landed it and never noticed it till packing.. The one is bent almost straight up.... Basically how it happened was that we were going to do a 3 way tube exit, and I was sitting down with my feet off the CASA ramp, and the other two were above me holding the appropriate person's ankles, and the guy holding my ankles was just going to roll out and we were supposed to roll out after him. In retrospect the only problem with this arrangement was that since I was already laying on the ramp there was no physical possibility that I was going to be able to "roll" with the formation. So because of this, the exit funnelled, and my rig got some abrasive damage from the grip tape that is on the ramp as I was dragged off of it. The damage wasn't super-serious, but I have to get a new tuck flap for my main pin cover now. All because we didn't think through how the exit would work carefully enough. *sigh*1. First raftdive: I was in the back of the raft in the dive that phree watches deteriorate from the ground. The exit almost funnelled and the raft was never completely stable....2. First horny gorilla dive3. First tracking contest (I didn't lose 4. First time being the significantly more experienced jumper on a 2way5. First high speed pass out of the CASA (Didn't flip or anything)6. First time being the base (target ) for an 18-way BFR (same jump as the high speed exit.) We got about 8 people into it.7. First completely stable sit. It was the last jump that I did at SGC, only my 5th attempt at sitting, and I did it with just shorts and a t-shirt on (and the rig of course). It felt awesome. So overall a good weekend, I spent too much money but learned and saw a lot more than I was expecting to. It was fun to see the night jumps land too.
