Derekbox 0 #1 May 28, 2002 hey people, I just started my AFF in Deland. I have already met too many damn cool people and had some great times.Seeing as my other life is on the internet I figure I might as well introduce myself (my experienced friend recommended this site). Im Derek, 21 and I goto Embry Riddle Aeronauitcal University. As of now I have one jump, by the end of next weekend I plan on being ceritified.For those of you who are well versed check it - my ground school instructer was Maddog (forgot his name) 0 but he is a base jumper who about a year ago hit some power lines and got a nice lil zap. My jump masters were Valdi Pesa and Lee "Skypunk" Werling.Well if anyone jumps Deland gimme a hollar (feel free to email: derek_the_freak@hotmail.com ). We can meet up. I was talking with Mike on Saturday and he was really looking forward to the jump.For those who don't know (and to update those who do) Mike "Maddog" Maguire had a180 degree off-heading opening on Christmas day, 2000 on a BASE jump off an antenna he had jumped many times before. This one resulted in him hitting high-tension lines and damn near killed him. He is still stiff from the resulting nerve damage, but is down to only using one crutch (more like a cane); the river jump was his first time in the air since. Derekbox 0 #10 May 28, 2002 A&P = Airframe & Powerplant, in the most basic sense were aircraft mechanics. But believe me it isnt that simple. IMHO we are basically maintence engineers. But yeah, Pilots break um we fix em.yeah Maddog was telling us (my AFF class) that he was doing a water jump, Im glad he did well cause I look foward to jumping with him and eveyrone else there once I become a half decent skydiver. (a good friend of mine is giving me some of his tunnel time @ skyventure in a couple of weeks, I am driving to Orlando for 7.5minutes of freefall paractice. I think its a safe bet that I am hooked.as for Mike Z, I dont know him, yet, Im sure I will meet him soon, either at the DZ, or through the school skydiving club.Andrea - I just saw your pic in the profile so I will keep an eye out for you, but Ill probably be to shy to say anything even if i did recognize you. But Im sure we will meet eventually. I think I will be at the DZ today (tues) for a bit, Ill probably be wearing what I have on now if anyone wants to single me out (red tshit, blue ish bucket cap, my hair is brown at the rips/but bleach blonde out, umm 5'10" and about 220lbs.
