Zennie 0 #1 May 14, 2002 OK, they don't suck. The special effects are cool and I like the way they're delving into the Jedi philosophy a bit, but they just don't have that vibe that the old ones had. I've been wondering why for a while and while watching Episode IV for the umpteen-millionth time it hit me... there's no Han Solo character. Han Solo, in a lot of ways, made the "second" three films. There's no happy-go-lucky-tough-but-honorable-swashbuckler-guy in these films. We need a Han Solo! "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense." Zennie 0 #4 May 14, 2002 QuoteThe force is not strong with you at all young Zennie Skywalker.LOL. Sure it is, just the Dark Side. C'mon, there aren't any other Han Solo fans?I worded the subject a bit strongly to foster discussion. I've been to every Star Wars movie in their original showings. In fact, I've been to every Star Wars movie on their opening day except Episode IV. I'll be watching Episode II on Thursday.I love the series, it just feels like the new series is missing something. Actually, the only part of ROTJ that I like is about the first and last 1/2 hour. I hate the Ewoks even more than Jar Jar.Ewoks must die!!! Zennie 0 #11 May 15, 2002 Quotein the near futureFuture? How 'bout now? You seen that shot of her in the halter top holding the blaster? Wowzers!Speaking of which, anyone seen the TV Guide that has Ewan Macgregor as the "young" Obi-Wan morphing into the Alec McGuiness "old" Obi-Wan? Really, really eerie how they got the look right.FWIW, I'll post a poll after I've seen the latest installment and give my "rankings" of the Star Wars episodes to date. As of now it's...1. The Empire Strikes Back2. A New Hope3. The Phantom Menace4. Return of the JediI put ROTJ last because its bad parts are just abysmal (i.e. pretty much the whole Ewoks sequence). About the only redeeming parts are the Jabba's Palace and final showdown scenes. Have to give a slight nod to Phantom Menace despite Jar Jar and the generally bad dialogue."Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense." PhreeZone 20 #12 May 15, 2002 All reviews point to AOTC having an even worse script then TPM....If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will....
lummy 4 #13 May 15, 2002 Well , we can always download it from the Net to see if it Really sucks like they say. Personally, I'd rather watch it on the big screen even thou I'm not that excited about it for some reason. I'm with Zennie seeing the first showings of all 4 (just not opening day, 4 hour lines for the orig is a Little bit too much for me )In afterthought, personal opinion is that the original stories were heavily influenced by Joseph Campbell's philosophies about Hero's and myths. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see that influence being as strong in the latest episodesOne shot... HEY!!! Mas Tequila!!!!Two Shots HEY HEY!!!!Three Shots....... AggieDave 6 #15 May 15, 2002 Either way I'm driving to Plano on Friday to watch it on the only DLP in Texas. And I've heard many reviews stating that Lucas has gotten back to his roots on this one and ATOC will rock. Either way, I'm approcing ATOC like TPM, with an open mind, no it will never live up to what the fans want, but it will probably be a fun movie to watch. If anyone wants to join me in Plano on Friday, I'm seeing the 8pm showing at the only DLP in Texas, the Cinemark on Hwy 75 and Legacy. Go to http://www.cinemark.com and order tickets, let me know (wear your dz.com shirt) and we'll meet up. Sebazz1 2 #23 May 15, 2002 Zennie i have to agree with you. Empire Strikes back was definately the best of all the Star Wars I have seen. Ewoks do suck. A little furry 3 foot tall Ewok with sticks a stones whoppin up on some bad ass storm troopers? Whatever. The last one with the Jaba daba Jabar somethin or other. Pretty silly too. I do look forward to seeing it for novelty purposes but i usually wait after it has been out for a couple of weeks so i do not have to battle the crowds. From the reports in the papers and other Star Wars die hards the effects in this flic are blurry and will probably not be as impressive as the hype. Princess Laya (SP?) is a hotty though. Any new hotties in this one?Sebazz........
