BarrettJ99 0 #1 May 8, 2002 Hey guys, I just moved to Corpus Christi and would appreciate a little help in locating a good DZ in the area to call my new home. Oh, and I've been spoiled at Lake Elsinore and Perris for the last few years so a turbine aircraft is a big plus. If anyone could give me a good suggestion I'd appreciate it. Please only comment if you've actually jumped there before. Thanks for the help, it's been too long.-J-T1D-24173
PhreeZone 20 #2 May 8, 2002 Swing by San Marcos and check them out. A sweet little DZ that has the purple tailed Otter and a really cool bunch of folks and a killer vibe. If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will....
AggieDave 6 #3 May 8, 2002 That's a hell of a drive from Corpus!Try Spaceland, that'll be closer to you, or Beaumont (which is a little 182 DZ). Spaceland freak'n rocks, they've got some great people (except for that damn Shawn guy...j/k Slappie ) and some nice Otters. If you can make it up to Aggieland (College Station) some time, you've got to come jump at Skydive Aggieland, then go party with us on Northgate. This is a college town with a DZ that has that same great fun attitude, never a dull moment, that's for sure. hookit 0 #4 May 8, 2002 Well, I jump at Skydive Spaceland in Rosharon, Texas, and IMO it's a great dz. However, Yahoo Maps is telling me that it's a 6.5 hour drive from Corpus to Rosharon. Yahoo claims it's only a 3.5 hour drive from Corpus to San Marcos (that's still not exactly what I would call a short drive!). I haven't jumped at San Marcos (yet) but I've heard nothing but good things about the dz.I believe they're the two dz's closest to Corpus which fly turbine aircraft.Good luck finding a new home dz!-Trey
AggieDave 6 #5 May 8, 2002 Huh, I thought Corpus was closer to H-town then that...*shrug* sorry, I get South Texas mixed up sometimes, seeing how I'm from the other part of the country...North Texas.AerialsSo up highWhen you free your lives (the) eternal prize
nacmacfeegle 0 #6 May 8, 2002 Isn't there a wee DZ at South Padre Island?, I don't know really, cos I'm not from round here, I'm from East Texas CyaD
AggieDave 6 #7 May 8, 2002 From what I understand, the DZ on the island is a total tandem factory.AerialsSo up highWhen you free your lives (the) eternal prize
nacmacfeegle 0 #8 May 8, 2002 Damn, I hate those places......CyaD
Jessica 0 #9 May 8, 2002 There's a 182 DZ in Beeville, just north of Corpus. I haven't been there yet, but I'm somehow on their e-mail list, and it seems like a great, comically over-enthusiastic group. For turbine, I jump at Skydive San Marcos. Really great otter DZ. Open Friday-Sunday. It's cool.
Shark 0 #10 May 8, 2002 Dude! You get that lil piece 'o Gold yet?? And doesn't Corpus Crispy have their "own" turbines? 'Sinore is only a days drive anyway.Late
chuckakers 426 #11 May 8, 2002 Gonna be a long haul for a turbine, but the Beeville DZ is nice and the people are very cool. Gary Morgan owns it - runs 2 182's. They would be great to jump with when you can't do the road trip thing.Chuck AkersHouston, Texas

Snowflake 0 #14 May 8, 2002 Welcome to Tejas!!!!! Come on up to San Marcos if you get a chance Hookit is correct it is around 3.5 hours to SSM but 6.5 hours sounds a little long to spaceland, prolly more like 5 hours. Theres bunk rooms at SSM and if you need a place to stay your more then welcome at me casa, which is about a half hour away in A town"don't do a drug be a drug"JG

chuckakers 426 #17 May 9, 2002 We'll stop up there soon. Great to know there's jumping at Coulter again. Some of my best experiences in the sport came from there. Like the night we painted...uh I mean the night someone painted the plane. Maybe I should shut up now.Chuck AkersHouston, Texas
weber 0 #18 May 9, 2002 I got a buddy in Corpus too and he jumps at Beaumont. He said it is pretty cool.
