Quincy or Chicago?

I know the wffc isnt in quincy this year but I was wondering where most people are going Wffc or skydive chicago? I understad they both hold their conventions at the same time.

I have been to SDC twice and loved it, Great place, Great people, Was there for last years Summerfest and it was wonderful.
I have been to many WFFC's and had many good times there but I also have been very disappointed there about many things, The crappy place they put private planes, The golf cart regulations made us feel like under aged criminals, The VERY late announcement of a no show jet and the Police are just a few. I swore I would never go back, BUT being that it is at a new place and Don K knows about these complaints I will forgive and forget and give Rantoul a ONE TIME chance this year, So our plans are to go to Rantoul and if we encounter any problems we will go North to SDC and not return to The WFFC, I know many that share these same feelings so only time will tell.

I went to Quincy last year and loved it...they say there is a magic about it and I really think that is true. I have been to Skydive Chicago before and had a great time. I'm sure Summerfest is awesome, but The WFFC has just got something special.

I think you should give WFFC a little wider chance this year. They are opening at a new facility on relatively short notice for the size of event. There are bound to be issues that have to be ironed out. And I'm sure that next year the WFFC will build on the issues from this year. I speak from experience on how best intentions for a large event can quickly go sour through no fault of your own. Many people hated the SDC when we first moved over to the new airport. SDC now 2002 and SDC 1998 are very different places. Vastly improved. Yes, I used to be full time pilot at SDC. Still jump there. I just think giving the WFFC a better chance this first year is in order.

How about impromtu wet t-shirt contests, I mean if they are busy trying to run the thing for the first year at the new site, I figure a few of us could 'volunteer' to handle wet-t-shirt contests

I will go to the WFFC with an open mind on the problems that a new location could/will present and be very forgiving about those problems. I know about some of what could/will happen for a few reasons. I have been around this sport since my first jump in 1983. I have been a big help in building my home D.Z from a van and a 182 at a public airport to the turbine D.Z it is now on private land and buildings that we cleared and built.
I have seen D.Z's open and close and come and go.
I was at SDC in 98 and again last year and give R. Nelson my up most gratitude for being honest and making it better and better and fixing the problems that came up. BUT this is my point, Roger listens to the jumpers and makes his place better for them. Don K has mislead if not down right lied about aircraft and improvements and that could be a sign of poor character. One year there is a problem and the same problem the next year and the next without change but promises to fix. And his fixes that did occur usually were the best for him and his protection or the towns people and not for the jumpers. If this is not true then tell me why his attendance dropped so and he had to leave Quincy?? And yes he had to leave because he knew very few would return if he did not move/change the WFFC.
I hope you don't think I don't like Don. I have great respect for the man. He has to be an extremely intelligent man to get to where he is and every time I have been around him he was very polite and friendly to all. It's just I think he may at times trade small amounts of honesty and sincerity for large attendance numbers and the money that brings.
I also think with his experience from Quincy and the knowledge he gained from it he will make Rantoul the better place, I hope so. Because the WFFC can be the best place on Earth.
P.S.: I'm gonna get flamed but it's my 2 cents.

No flame throwers here. You obviously been around awhile. I could care less if people choose WFFC or Summerfest. I'll be at Summerfest most likely. I just hope everyone keeps an open mind about WFFC. But, you have more history to draw from on this issue.

I think I'll have to go to WFFC myself.
Main reason is , considering Rogers "no swearing policy"
All I'd be doing all day is returning the peace sign and shit eating grins to people giving me the peace sign and shit eating grins all pfouking day long. I wouldn't have any pfouking time to jump! :-)

i give my vote for both! ive met roger nelson and don kirlin any they are both nice people to talk to. i myself have never been to sdc but i hear it is a nice place. i have been to the last three wffc's and had a blast each year! i wont be able to go to either this year because of school. but i hope to go to one of them next year!!!

It's about 2 - 2.5 hour drive. You can go freeway all the way, by taking 2 sides of a triangle, or shorten the trip (in miles) by taking side roads. If you have your own plane it will be much quicker.
