Illinois record attempt @ Hinckley

Recommended Posts

Okay, as of right now, Mr. Weather dude says the best day we are gonna get is Saturday. Of course this is the Greater Chicagoland area, so I would not really depend on the weather prediction any more than 30 minutes in advance.
The real question is how am I gonna recognize any of you people? Are we gonna have a flag or banner to congregate around? Any ideas?
I'm easy to find....just look for the best-looking guy around...........I'll be close by him to scam on the chicks he throws away.

Yours won't be the only jumpBubble, medic. There's a few others there.
I may be wearing my dz.com shirt. If not, just find an experienced jumper and ask for the Canadian. They'll make fun of me, then point me out.

I'll be around people i have met that have dz.com shirts on like Anne, or anyone else.
Last friday was sposed to be "cloudy"....well, it was perfectly sunny with no wind so honestly the weather report in Chicagoland is worth less than the canadian dollar.

I'll be the dorky looking skinny young guy complaining about the weather sunday, because I can't make it saturday. I'm very easy to spot if people convince me to do RW- bright red and blue jumpsuit, bright green helmet, black rig. It's a getup loud enough to hear in freefall.

A handfull of us will be there friday after world, then crashing at a hotel in dekalb. I imagine we'd be there 8 or 9...
Gonna take the record thing slow, I think. The point of the weekend is really just to hang out with other dz.com'ers, and get some good skydiving in. Gonna be fun!

8? 9? AM? that's crazy talk! :)that might be tough depending on how late the friday night bonfire goes! based on my past trips i have a feeling i will NOT be disappointed! and if the weather is crap on sunday then we can at least party saturday night till dawn...
can't believe you are staying at a hotel! i think the grounds at hinckley are great! cept for the rusty water. and the train that goes by every 20 minutes at night...the train is not much of a bother though if you A. drink enough or B. use earplugs:)
only a couple more work days!!!

hinckley bondfires are AWSOME.
I usually bring my tent and pitch right behind the Otter. I'm usually up about 2 minutes before the first load.
A pair of PT6-27 make an EXCELLENT alarm clock.

Updates for the weekend:
Weather has improved to "partly cloudy" both days....so it's lookin better.
Also, no arava yet, but according to their weekly update, until the Arava shows up they will be flying the FrankenOtter!!
So, it's on for the weekend.

Keep your fingers crossed that partly cloudy and warm doesnt secretly mean super windy but you won't have to wear a jacket and you'll be able to see the sun

Chris,
I see you are getting the hang of this whole "springtime in the Chicago area thing!" I think it took me 2 spring times as a skydiver to realize that sunny and warm in April or May usually means windy too!

I just got the email... no Arava. FrakenOtter will be there. Still another first for me....
This will help us with the record. I wasn't looking forward to trying to take out a good sizes base from the Arava.

yeah, the winds shouldn't matter too much...
the thing that is bad about hinckley for my group is the fact that there is no weather station where you can see it that shows sustained wind and gusts. back home, if we start seeing the winds get choppy or high then the pilot will want to quit or jumpers may not go up.
true, we'll stop our cessnas, but nothin stops the hinckley otters! we'll look towards the landing area and think "well, the wind blades are bent over, but the plane is still flying! put me on for the next load!" :)i was there once when we got put on a 200 jump minimum hold due to wind, but that was *really* windy that day. oh well...see you all there!
