UPT D-Bag V348

Hi all,

I just got a new bag for my Vector V348 and it is a bit different than my old bag. I have Attached a Picture showing the 4 grommets on the mouth for the lines but there are only 3 tabs for the elastic bands on the other side. (circled in red) The 3 tabs are symetrical. The centre tab is in the middle.

I presume it is supposed to be like this but I have not seen it before so I thought I would ask here how I am supposed to set it up.

I cannot think of a reason why "it's supposed to be like that". Perhaps contact UPT and see what they say ?

HMM have not seen that either before, i think they left out a Tab by accident, I would send the same email to UPT and ask for clarification.

aren't those for the first 2 rubber bands so you can stow the lines as seen on this video:

No, the UPT semi stowless bag only has 2 grommets, his bag has 4.

Seems that is the case. UPT is sorting it.

Yes, that is correct.I would have doubts about the judgement of any rigger that didn't catch this obvious mistake.

This is the paradox of skydiving. We do something very dangerous, expose ourselves to a totally unnecesary risk, and then spend our time trying to make it safer.

I am not saying that it's ok not to notice something like that, but I totally see how one may overlook this non-lifethreateting part of the bag when only packing the reserve. All you rightous riggers, where on your assembly/checklist is the item "check that number of rubberband stows on the main d-bag matches the number of grommets" ???? This is an item that is likely to be missed until you are actually packing the main into the bag and attempting to close it.

You want your riggers to get diligent into the nitty-gritty and count stitches ? Surely you don't expect that for $50, do you ?

THIS... I can't believe how easy riggers start blaming other riggers for a mistake or for overlooking something. It's like they never make any mistakes. If you do rigging, you gonna make a mistake. Period. If you think you won't, you are BSing yourself and your costumers..... and nobody said anything about UPT's QC! They were the people who should've stopped from getting out of the door, but guess what, they are humans and they do make mistakes as well.

The only reason for my post was to make sure I had indeed an incorrect bag. It was Friday night and everyone had gone home. Otherwise I would have called the rigger directly.

I ordered Risers, bag, pilotchute etc assembled to a canopy so I could swap canopies in my rig. Everything has been assembled. The risers are attached to the lines, the bag and pilot chute are attached to the canopy.

I must admit I was a little suprised that no rubber bands were mounted. but maybe this is the norm? Had they mounted rubber bands they would surely have seen the bag was incorrect and would have sorted the problem.

But no biggie, a new bag is being shipped to me and I will swap it when it comes.

A complete assemble, inspect and pack (on a new rig) costs more than $100 near Vancouver.
Then I usually try to fob the main pack job off on one of the staff packers ... to ... er ... get a second set of eyballs to inspect it.
