INSANEDADDY 0 #1 May 1, 2002 Does anyone ever have dreams of malfunctions? I woke up in a dead sweat last night. I was spinning uncontrollably and went for the cutaway and reserve handles. The reserve comes out with the dam slider hung all the way up. I pumped the toggles all the way to the ground. I remember watching the altimeter at 1000 feet and thinking I am fucked. I hit the groung and was OK. Everyone ran out to check to see if I was Ok. Then I woke up. Pretty scary dream.....

AndyMan 7 #3 May 1, 2002 I have a recurring dream about dislocating my shoulder, being unable to pull. To complicate matters, I then brainfreeze and don't go silver with the other arm. Fortunately it ends with my Cypres firing.I read this as my biggest fear in skydiving - not equipment failures, but MY failure - both physical and mental. Equipment failures I know I can deal with. One of the reasons I love this sport is that ultimately, it comes down to me. I have to act to save my life every time I leave that airplane. The reason I love this sport so much is that I get to overcome one of my biggest fears everytime I jump.Nah, that wasn't TMI._AmICQ: 5578907MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfeYahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
indyz 1 #4 May 1, 2002 Hitting the ground and walking away seems to be a common theme. My only skydiving dream so far involved me going in. I waved and pulled at the normal altitude. I felt the pilot chute launch and catch air, but nothing happened. Looked over my shoulder, saw the PC in tow, put my hands on the handles, looked down to make sure I had them, and saw the ground right there. Bounced before I could react. Got up and walked back to the hangar. The total time from my wave to the ground was maybe 5 seconds. --Brian
FallinWoman 1 #5 May 1, 2002 When I was a student i had to jump only on Saturdays, because the night after jumping I never could sleep...I would fall asleep and relive the jump. Wake up with a rush of adrenaline. Then I would dream about people bouncing right in front of me. It was awful.Thankfully I have outgrown this and am now able to get a full night's sleep after jumping.Anne

ECVZZ 0 #7 May 1, 2002 Holy Shit!!! I hate Black widows more than anything in this world! Damn, they just give me the creeps. All black and shiney and mechanical looking. They wouldn't even have to bite me, if one of the things ever got on me I'd vapor lock right there on the spot!G. Vallerina 2 #8 May 1, 2002 I had this weird skydiving dream about a half a year ago. It started out in a skyvan with everyone from my home dz holding their canopies in their arms. Certain instructors began telling me how to release it. It was my turn to jump. I jumped up too high and hit the top of the plane, then hit the tailgate right before I tumbled out. Because I hit the tailgate, I ended up releasing my canopy way too late, so it opened funky. Everything looked normal, except my canopy was turned 90 degrees. But, it flew "straight" (as in the direction I was looking, not the way the canopy was turned), so I decided to land it in someone's backyard. The end!May not be Mr. Right, but he'll do right now. pilotdave 0 #9 May 1, 2002 Had one last week after I had a pilot chute in tow. Don't remember what the malfunction was in my dream but I cut away then went for the reserve. I was pulling the reserve ripcord as hard as I could and it moved very slowly. I grabbed the cable itself and kept reeling it out. Took forever but it finally deployed the reserve, which snivelled till I hit the ground. I landed on a grassy hill unhurt, but I was pissed at my rigger! That's about when I woke up.Davehttp://www.skydivingmovies.com
Skyrose7 0 #10 May 1, 2002 I have dreams of thinking I was at correct altitude to pull, but I looked at my altimeter and I was fine. The ground kept getting closer and closer. I guess I would relate it to the point where you know to flare (grass blades), and then I wake up.wierd.Then there is the dreams of where I have no rig on. I use my arms as a parachute. seems to work quite well, but, I don't think I will be tryin it any time soo. The mind is like a parachute--it works better when it is open. JUMP. Forgot to fasten chest strap. Fixed it but found myself very low. Reserve.3. Low jump. Didn't bother pulling anything. Landed fine of soft ground. Nobody expects the...um...the Spanish...um... sunshine 2 #15 May 1, 2002 I have dreams about jumping without a rig alot. I don't remember much else about the dreams, i just have the sensation of falling and i know i don't have a rig. The only good thing is the dream kinda stops before i actually go in. Freaky."A day without sunshine is....well....it's dark"
coconutmonkey 0 #16 May 1, 2002 I had one that was a great dive, track away, and double total mal. Couldn't fix it so I just tracked all the way in to Mrs Billie's pool (with a double backflip entry, little off center for the east german judge, might have to settle for the bronze) and lived. Then got shot by Mrs Billie while climbing out... Told ya not to land in the pool...

Very wierd.. the last one I had i was practicing head down and lost track of altitude looked down and saw the ground coming up real quick didn't have time to dump, hit the ground and got up - nothing wrong with me. thought "hey that was cool, don't have to worry about packing my rig" it scared me shitless (in the dream) and i figured out I didn't turn my audible on.. after that it hit me how stupid I was cause I didn't turn my AAD on as well. THEN it hit me (i guess I do a lot of thinking in my dreams) that I was wearing a camera.. so I went back to review the footage, and it was some kinda wierd ass camera angle where when I was head down you could see my face but also see the ground coming up. Crazy.. the other dream was simlar, walked away from a no-deployment.Wonder what that means?Kevinhttp://www.interone.net

Beachbum 0 #21 May 1, 2002 QuoteIs there anyone out there that actually dream about landing their main in an uneventfull way?yeah .. I had one once where I was on a 3 way with a friend and someone I didn't know ... broke, tracked, and threw out ... looked around and only saw my friend's canopy ... looked down and see a tangled mess falling to earth below me. I think that one bothered me more than ones where it was MY mal !! As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks? hookit 0 #23 May 1, 2002 I've had a couple of dreams about skydiving both of which involved a mal of some sort. In one of them I chopped my main but when I went to pull the reserve ripcord the cable just kept coming and coming and coming....it was like one of those scarves that magicians pull from their pocket which seems to never end. In both dreams I hit the ground with no parachute open yet walked away.I wonder why it is that it's such a recurring theme in all of our dreams to have a mal, hit the ground, and yet survive. gale 0 #24 May 1, 2002 After reading threads about skydiving dreams I dreamed this last night:I was being taught with three others and the exercise we had to do was fall as fast as we could head first and then at the last second before hitting the ground, pull up and land on our feet. (Maybe it also came from the birdman landing discussion too) I was late and didn't get on the plane but the other three people managed to do it OK. (Just to make things more exciting, they were landing in a think fog and just emerged out of it like magic.)Funny, I never thought it couldn't be done in the dream...GaleLife's not worth living if you can't feel alive
flyinryan 0 #25 May 1, 2002 Dreams about malfunctions??? Well, do dreams about my last girl friend count? lolI have had some interesting BASE malfunction dreams. I landed a line over in one dream and then watched my friends land the same mal. I also had a dream where a friend of mine let me borrow his Velocity 90 (I weigh 220 out the door :O), weird dream. I also had a weird BASE dream where I threw out my pilot chute but didn't like the way I through it, so I moved really quickly and some how caught the pilot chute and re-threw it.Good times, I wish I was as good a skydiver in real life as I am in my dreams.
