rhino 0 #27 May 1, 2002 Considering the people that have jumped and what they have to say about the crossfire2 I think it will sell well. I have one ordered that will be here in 3 weeks. Hook jumped it. Can't think of anyone more qualified to say whether or not this is a bad ass canopy. His comments were in the line of "when I upsize I will definitely consider the crossfire2".And let's remember the crossfires that might or might not have had the defects were not being produced at Icarus's plant. Most people here know that at that moment Icarus was using for some reason "another" manufacturers plant. They aren't any longer and quality control is even better than ever. I can't wait to get my crossfire2 97. I am jumping a crossfire109 that is on the mod list and it is a spectacular canopy. I think the important thing is that everyone learned from the crossfire incident and actions were taken to insure it doesn't happen again.Rhino Blue Skies ..... Jimbo 0 #28 May 1, 2002 QuoteI guess I'm just pissed that I spent that money and could have gotten something that might be an improvement. You're right. Maybe you could have, but what would you have been jumping until now? Rental gear? Do what every other skydiver does and sell what you've got now and buy new. Just curious, are you pissed at the company who manufactured your computer? -Jim
mountainman 0 #29 May 1, 2002 QuoteJust curious, are you pissed at the company who manufactured your computer? No, because that is a given that what you buy today will be upgraded tomorrow. That is not even a good example since the technology changes so fast with computers. Jimbo 0 #30 May 1, 2002 Actually, it's pretty much a given with every thing, except maybe bread. Why did you expect the parachute industry to be any different? Especially from a somewhat progressive company like Icarus?
skybytch 273 #31 May 1, 2002 QuoteNo, because that is a given that what you buy today will be upgraded tomorrow. That is not even a good example since the technology changes so fast with computers. You know that. It's a very good example. Skydiving equipment manufacturers are constantly modifying, upgrading and improving their products. Just like computer and software manufacturers. And you haven't answered the question - what would you have been jumping if you'd "waited" for the Safire2? Judging by your previous post - you knew that something was in the works but they couldn't tell you when it would be released. You chose not to wait. Once again... get over it.pull & flare, lisaMy website
skymama 37 #32 May 1, 2002 I'm missing something here...are you happy with the way your canopy flies? Because if you are, what differrence does it make that they made a new product? You don't even know if you will prefer the new one yet. And, if you demo it and do like it, I'm sure you'll find someone to buy your old canopies.AndreaI'm high as a kiteI just mightStop and check you out. GrumpySmurf 0 #34 May 1, 2002 QuoteYes we will be releasing a generation 2 Safire canopy ...[snip]... It would be morelikely to take place mid next year. May 10 is something like 3 weeks short of 'mid next year' - to be able to forcast product release that far (almost a year) in the future and only be off by 3 weeks is astounding. Normally, product release forcasts that far out can only be refined to some point in a quarter. Kudos to Icarus for being done, not only on time, but a little early. From what you appear to have posted back in the fall of last year, they were completely up front about a projected release date (looks like they projected end of 2nd to beginning of 3rd quarter) and recommended for you to buy the current generation product, rather than wait. I can't see how anyone would feel mislead. But, in the end it was your call to buy it then and not wait. *shrug*Oh well, seems we are beating a dead horse here. mountainman 0 #35 May 1, 2002 SkyB...I probably would've bought a cheap used one until the new one came.SkyKat....I'm trying to talk Laura into getting that done. I have the page bookmarked and it looks really awesome. Some of you are assuming that I said my canopy sucks and this one is the only one that is good. I dont see where I wrote that. What I am mad about is that they denied having a new version of the Safire in the works and told me that. That is ALL. Quit making assumptions from other things that I wrote. I like the canopy, I just wish I would've known so I could have waited a bit. Again...that is ALL.JumpinDuo.com...come and sign the guestbook. You are the one who posted that they did indeed tell you there was a new version in the works to be released mid year 2002. I understand your frustration. I found out about the Javelin Odyssey about the same time I received my baby Jav. But once I put that sweet baby on it didnt' matter cause I loved her for who she was! Incidentally, I have since demoed an Odyssey (for the canopy inside) and didn't like the Odyssey at all. You might not like the Safire 2 better than your current canopy! It could happen! Anyhow, cheer up. You have all your limbs working and are jumping right? What could be better?! dove

SBS 0 #42 May 1, 2002 I have a feeling after the Crossfire quality control incident last year, they probably wanted to make extra sure the product(s) were perfect before getting anyones hopes up.----------------------Reasonable speculation, but that really wasn't the issue. They were still testing, but there was much more to it, in the canopy itsself and how it would be marketed.Steve
SBS 0 #43 May 1, 2002 I asked them if they were coming out with one the next year (this year) because I heard a lot of people talking about it. However, they denied it up and down and said that there wasn't.--------------------------------Funny, that's not what it seemed to say in the post that you made in September, quoting an e-mail from Icarus directly. Why don't you call Apple and ask them if they are releasing anything new within the next couple of months...I'm sure they'd be happy to share with you. So we can assume that you would have remained canopyless for the past 6 months in anticipation for the Safire2? So, everyone in the skydiving industry should stop their R&D when someone purchases a canopy? If you purchased a canopy that you were happy with, then what's the problem? Get a grip, it's really not that big a deal.Steve
SBS 0 #44 May 2, 2002 No...I was told by random people, but when I asked Icarus about it, they said "no".-------------------------So, take us through this step by step...I would be particularly interested in what exactly you were on, or how hard you had hit your head right before you authored the following snipets..."I just got an e-mail back from Icarus today in regards to their new Safire that is coming out. Here is what they wrote me:" *********I would have to assume that you mean that you spoke to Icarus somehow, probably by e-mail, and the following is their response**********Yes we will be releasing a generation 2 Safire canopy however, it is unlikely that this would be within the next 6 months. It would be more likely to take place mid next year. As a result, you're probably best tonot wait. ************I would try to translate this to make it more clear, but I don't really think it's possible...the closest word I see to "no" in there is "not", and that's not referring to the canopy. Seems like they have done exactly what they told you they were going to do************Do you discriminate in your bad mouthing, or do you talk about everyone like this when things don't go your way?Steve
Michele 1 #45 May 2, 2002 Brandon, to me, you sound just like a spoiled child. Your obvious sense of entitlement is very apparent here, and frankly, it disgusts me.QuoteWhat I am mad about is that they denied having a new version of the Safire in the works and told me that. They didn't deny it. You did know it. Period. You made the choice to not wait. You got too eager to get into the air with matching outfits, you even posted all over these boards the design, the final product on your living room coffee table, and quite clearly demonstrated your joy at your new equipment. You knew you could have waited. You didn't. Deal with it, and stop stamping your verbal feet and throwing a temper tantrum. Take a little responsibility here, o.k.? Your first post on this thread states:Quotethat is some fucked up bullshit if I have ever seen any! I can guarentee that I'll never say ANYTHING good about my canopy or recommend them to ANYONE. What do you think that someone should assume from what you wrote here? That you were, um, pleased and content with the service Icarus provided? When you say you "won't recommend then to ANYONE", should one believe that you are a satisfied customer? Nope, that is not what you intended us to believe when you put up the post. Backpeddling, and trying to avoid responsibility doesn't wash with me, nor (judging by the responses) with other folks posting on this thread. You were impugning the integrity of Icarus. It is very clear. And it is very wrong.Your post is the"fucked up bullshit, if I have ever seen any" (your words). Considering this is a pubic website, and considering you slammed the fuck out of Icarus, even though you knew the truth was different, I would sincerely think you owe them an apology. Get a grip, Brandon. Get a grip, and get over it. If you really want to, you can seize the day; if you really want to, you can fly away...~enya~
