Viking 0 #1 May 1, 2002 For me it was a 1400 foot opening on a Flat Packed PD260 9-cell . This happened on my 12th jump. Should i have cut it away? Is there a set # of feet that you should chop it?I swear you must have footprints on the back of your helmet - chicagoskydiver

ScottishJohn 25 #5 May 1, 2002 I had an opening last summer that sniveled for 1100 ft.Even got accused of low opening because everyone else was under canopy and I was still passing them with a slightly open canopy above my head.It fully opened @ 1800, and it was a Fury 220=================================I can smell your brains !=================================
bhale 0 #6 May 1, 2002 I had a Jedei that, after I put a very large lip on the slider, would average 1,800 snivels.
Rdutch 0 #7 May 1, 2002 My stelletto 107 takes at least 1000 feet to open I shoot 4way video and i dump when the team breaks off and we are usually open at the same altitude. When I jump my velocity theres a big difference. Both canopies open slowly but the stilleto snivels more.Hook low Flare late
gus 1 #8 May 1, 2002 QuoteIt fully opened @ 1800, and it was a Fury 220A friend of mine had exactly the same problem with his Fury 220 and was frequently accused of low openings, much to his disgust! The rest of us just thought it was funny Gus"Sex? Once every six seconds. Skydiving? Five times, every six seconds."
coconutmonkey 0 #9 May 1, 2002 I regularly have long snivels (packed to avoid opening back breakers) but I plan my pull alt to allow for it so I still have time to evaluate my main before I hit my hard deck alt. A good reason for pulling higher with new gear or pack methods as well.
freeflir29 0 #10 May 1, 2002 I don't know how much altitude I used up but I had my PD 190 snivel for a full 6 seconds out of the bag. I'm thinking 800-900 Ft is probably about right. The DZO from Atlanta Air Sports in Rome had Pro packed it and obviously did a hell of a job. With that canopy I would look up when it came out of the bag to check the lines. Then look back down to see where I am and then look back up to watch it fully inflate. Normal sequence was 3-4 seconds. On this one....I looked up....looked down....looked up...watched it...looked back down....looked back up....gave a little tug on the riser and inflation. Damn sweet opening. coconutmonkey 0 #11 May 1, 2002 any opening that saves your life is a sweet opening (some more bittersweet than others).
freeflir29 0 #12 May 1, 2002 Quoteany opening that saves your life is a sweet opening Yeah..but I have known several people that woke up some time after they deployed and realized that their canopy had opened....and their neck really hurt. coconutmonkey 0 #13 May 1, 2002 True, but they did wake up.... and a packer was severly beaten... and in the distance a dog barked....
ECVZZ 0 #14 May 1, 2002 Longest and sweetest opening was on a Spectre...about 700 or 800 ft.- Also my personal hard deck is 2K, and if I don't have something landable over my head by then it WILL get chopped! I'm still a low timer, so it hasn't happened yet G. Jones"Why don't they have a light bulb that only shines on things that are worth looking at?"
