Cornholio 0 #51 April 29, 2002 My turn...1:1:1I did my first hop-n-pop today from 3500'. That was an experience. Almost everything went wrong...I was second out (cessna 206) and when I let go of the strut, I reached for my pud and did a front roll. I pulled the PC and since I was on my back, it got wrapped on my hand once or twice around. I noticed it, arched, and let it flow off my hand back into the airstream. snivel...snivel...snivel...ok...open at 2600' Then coming in for landing, I totally misread the wind markers and landed downwind. I misread them by 180 degrees!! Don't know what I was thinking about, but I noticed two other wind flags in the landing area around 100 feet, but I was already set up for landing...PLF..roll..roll...roll... I must say tho, my canopy sure as hell flares much better downwind... it must be the forward speed. I flared on time ( for a normal landing) , but since I was downwind, it was considered early and I popped up after flaring, then prepared for a PLF. Only one today... there was lots of cloud cover, hence the reason for the hop-n-pop. Next Friday, I get packing lessons!! Wooo!!__________________________________________If first you don't succeed....skydiving is not for you.

JDBoston 0 #53 April 29, 2002 2:1:1First jump on my new rig. Yahoo! If a hand-job counts I guess I get maybe 2.5 on the first category. A little random but what the hell. Different girl than the 2, that's the only reason I'd count it. Sorry if that's TMI.Joe

skymama 37 #56 April 29, 2002 0:5:0 updated numberstoday was one of those "fun" days in skydiving. I got a well known belly flier in Deland to do a free fly jump with me. Pictures of his flailing exit will come soon! And, I also took part in someone's 100th jump....it went to hell...there's a reason why you shouldn't ask freefliers to belly fly! But, we all had a lot of laughs from it.AndreaI'm high as a kiteI just mightStop and check you out.
AggieDave 6 #57 April 29, 2002 :5:3+I'm not tell'n on the first number, just know that its there and it was better then it has been in a few months...Did 3 night jumps, my first night jump, my first night 4-way RW and my first 3-way FF. We quite jumping at 2:30am Saturday morning, SD Aggieland put up 4 night loads, and we had a HUGE party going for the non-jumpers and for the jumpers after we got done jumping. It was f**king nutz! All in all, except for the massive amounts of studying that I have to do this weekend, this was one ot the best weekends I've had in a long damn time. A human cannonball, I rise above it allUp higher then a trapeze, I can fly
skybytch 273 #58 April 29, 2002 Like you expect this number to ever change:2:0A 12 way that built to 10 or so (spent half that dive geeking and being geeked by the LO) and a 7 way, both RW. One really pretty stand up landing (in no wind even) and a downwinder that was not pretty. My left arm is pretty useless right now and my back hurts like hell... but nothing seems to be broken except for my pride (oh please... let me not have fucked up my back...).And - I got my 12 hour freefall badge! Woo hoo!! The pic for Parachutist should be hilarious - five guys on their hands and knees, me laying on my side on top of them and I dunno how many guys behind me "holding me up" pull & flare, lisa[subliminal msg]My website Go Now[/subliminal msg]

FallingMarc 0 #61 April 29, 2002 QuoteI must say tho, my canopy sure as hell flares much better downwind... it must be the forward speed.----------------Uh-oh. Talk like that isn't tolerated on these forums .Ooh! Ooh! Can I do it this time? Heheh...In a nutshell, your canopy doesn't know what direction you're going-upwind, downwind, crosswind, straight up, diving, it will fly the same way no matter what. You're gliding through a giant mass of air that is also moving across the ground, which creates wind for those standing still on the ground. When you're going downwind, it just means that your speed across the ground is higher, not your speed through the air.My guess is that you saw the ground going way faster than usual, got freaked out and flared a little high and a little hard. That's what I did when I downsized, anyway. Man, I wish this stuff was part of the requirements for an A. Skydivers are forced to be glider pilots... as such, we should have a better general understanding of aerodynamics than we do.Marc

Ducky 0 #64 April 29, 2002 5/4:1:0Well the first set of numbers may need explanation, I attended another of the now famous "partys" I go to on Saturady night. Let's just say the opportunities were abundant, sorry guys no pics (yet)! The numbers would be humps/women :jumps:beer. As for jumps we had the CASA boogie this weekend, managed to get 2 loads up on Friday, 1 on Saturday and 1 on Sunday, clouds and wind screwed us. I was walking out the door at about 7pm today and they were talking of the winds dying and trying to get one load up. I was unsure of winds, but convinced by an instructor who knows me well that I was capable of handling it. 2 minutes before take off they issued a tornado warning for about 15 miles down the road! They pulled students off the load and the rest of us went. We had clear skies around us, but the winds were kickin at 25 knots @ 2k!! I was told that I could/should consider riding the plane down, my friggin stomach was in my throat. I was the only one on the load w/ less than 100 jumps. Another discussion with an instructor who knows me and my abilitys well and he left it up to me to decide saying that he had confidence in me that I could handle it. Well to shorten the story I'm a skydiver NOT a plane rider! It was a thoroughly thought out decision though. The winds on the ground calmed dramatically, but at 2k or so they were still howling (yes i was flying freakin backwards!). I made it back just fine without gettin downwind and landed on target standin up. I had quite the cheer from the crowd, they were worried about me. What should have been a 10 jump weekend flopped, but I feel great and have no regrets, ain't life great?kwakStupidity is a crime.
Spy38W 0 #65 April 29, 2002 Hrm, this is a difficult one. .3:3:2.3 for the f-ed up stuff that happened which is the closest I have gotten to having anything in the first column in a while. I'm still at a loss of how to put it into words3 for the three jumps I made this weekend (of course) the initial jump was a 3 way belly which was pretty cool, second was a 4 way belly, third was a 4 way belly that started out as a three-way mudflap grip headdown. The other two tried to release but the HD was so cool I just grabbed and held on to enjoy for a bit.Beer for first 3-way head down off a 182, and first night jumps (but that was Thursday, so should I include it?)--Give them a sip of the darkside, and they just thirst for more. quade 4 #67 April 29, 2002 0:12:1Perris Lightwave coaching (us coaching other teams)Saturday was pretty screwed up weather-wise so we only got in four.Sunday was much better with 10, but actually quite slow due to all of the ground coaching. We'd do back-to-backs and then spend 60 minutes or so coaching and creeping the next dives, then wash rinse and repeat.Got asked to pose in Skybytch's 1000 and 12 photo! The 1 is for my new camerasuit. WAS a Tony, but I had Shirley Pelland do a LOT of custom work on rebuilding the wings. Way bitchin' so far. Very powerful. Requires a bit of testing to see how it flys on it's back -- haven't done that yet.quadehttp://futurecam.com
freeflir29 0 #68 April 29, 2002 I lost freakin count!!!!:5:0Hmmmmm...not too bad a weekend in spite of the crappy weather Saturday. Let me see.....cloudy and crappy Saturday so it was time for Cessna step and dumps. I did my lowest exit so far. Pretty cool getting out that low. Had my slider stowed by 1000 Ft. SCHWEEEEEET!!!. It cleared off later in the day and I got in an Otter load. Sunday was nice out except for the wind. Funny....I finally didn't stand up a landing.
