Paintball at WFFC

Recommended Posts

OK -- looking at the non-jumping activities page on the web site (http://www.freefall.com), I see that paint ball equipment and faclilites are included in the registration price, only have to buy the paintballs
SO -- reviving an old thread from Rec.Skydiving, it looks like this is the year for the first annual Canopy Paintball Tournament!
Rules are simple, you must be under canopy to score a kill, the target must also be under canopy. Any one hitting a non-participant will be DQed, so you must identify your target before exiting the aircraft -- no shooting willy-nilly at others under canopy. $5 entry fee. Entry closes on Sunday 4th. Last "surviving" participant wins the pot.

If you do try something like this - remember to wear approved goggles, skydiving goggles are not gonna stop a ball of paint doing 300 fps. Paintball doesn't need it's image tarnished more with news reports of someone being blinded under canopy and downwinding into the side of a building/power lines/swoop pond/someones car cause they couldn't see.

Actually, I would hazard they would get thier collective asses kicked. ;) Seriously though, you might want to consider space ball rules about doing so over an uninhabited area, since any misses are gonna come down on top of spectators.

Space ball rules... then a min altitude of like 5000... I'd hate to get shot up as I was landing and crash and die... Also an official to make sure "Unautharized contact" (wraps) don't happen..
If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will....

Isnt there any chance of shooting a paint ball through someones canopy...I mean can they go through one.....It sounds like fun but I'd be one pissed off person if someone shot a hole in my canopy, or even splattered paint all over it.....

Aye, it's a risk - you are taking two potentially dangerous activities (though the most dangerous thing about properly played paintball *ON THE GROUND* is a twisted ankle) and mixing them up - there will be risk. I'd be plenty ticked if the dye doesn't come out of my brand new main - have never seen how different brands of paint will react with ZP in terms of washability, not on my list of things to try. ;)
'You pay your money, you take your chances' - if you are hell-bent to do it -> just try to do it in a way that no bystanders are put at risk and the FAA doesn't come down like the Wrath of Some-higher-power, but please do not consider this a blessing to do it.
If you do want to play it on the ground make sure the organizers got proper eye protection and chronograph the markers for under 300 fps for day and 260 fps for night (night paintball is quite the trip - wanna talk about serious case of paranoia? :)

Thought so... Like you thought we'd BELIEVE that you broke your leg landing

Well, the people in the ER didn't believe it was because I was dancing naked on a picnic table.
Actually, I broke this leg like 10 years ago playing painball. Didn't even know I broke it till a few days later when my dad made me get x-rays.
Hey, I played the rest of the day!
Need to go play soon

I played paintball once. Some of the hardcore guys got mad at us cuz we didn't want to play speedball (whatever that is) and also because we kept calling our team "Team Discovery Channel" (which i would love to call a freefly team).

Flying Ferret and myself used to have a group in N. Texas that would play some seriously long epic games of outlaw ball. It freak'n rocked, we had guys with home built silencers and guille suits. We had some tricked out spyders, with 16" rifled All-American barrels, Bob Long cyclone II bolts. I stretched out my recoil spring to hop up the muzzle velocity, to shoot around 390fps. NO, I did not shoot anyone that was closer then 25yds, YES I know that at that speed it could break masks, and be very dangerous. It was very accurate for a very long distance, though. That was cool, since I could sit way back behind stuff and play sniper. :)A human cannonball, I rise above it all

The first time I ever played, very first game of the day, maybe a minute after the starting horn blew I my partner and I saw a couple of guys coming down a path into an open area that divided the field. We were maybe 100 yards apart when we saw each other. There was no way that we should have been able to hit each other from that far with rental guns so I didn't even bother firing. I saw a puff of condensate out of one of the other guys barrels then my whole world turned pink. First shot of the day, from 100 yards, with rental guns, got me right between the eyes. I couldn't believe it.

Actually, I'd be more concerned about the balls exploding in the breech from the bolt slapping them that fast, especially with a Spyder. Spyder owners, the riceboys of the paintball circuit - take a $200 marker and trick it out with $1000 in accessories (yes, I own one as well) ;)

Speedball - a realtively 'new' (I think it started becoming popular when I started playing in '93) way to go broke and get lots of welts - a very tight field (often times a maze of tires 50' by 50') loaded with a buttload of people, lots of paint and everyman for himself - all you hear is 'tick' 'tick' tick' OW! OW! OW! OK! OK! HIT!!... 'tick' 'tick' 'tick'....

I would have that happen, balls exploding in the breech, if I used really cheap paint. As long as the paint was half decent, no problems. I guess its the same with just about everything in life, pay a little extra and you'll usually find it was worth it.

Guess the aftermarket bolt must have helped over the stock one? If I had a dime for very barrel break I've gotten...though half of them were my own fault with trying to put more balls out than gravity could pull out of the hopper - chop, chop, chop, talk about 'spluge-city' - I dunno how many games I've spent behind a bunker with my Spyder parked between my knees, with the squeegie in the left hand and the PT Enforcer in the right, cursing to the high heavens and hoping no one rushes me.
Found the niftiest thing for paintball last year from a place called the 'Brigade Quartermaster' (I think that was name) - they have high impact plastic replicas of the US PASGT helmets, padded too. Run something like $20 or $30 - if you've ever been popped in the noggin, especially from behind or on the earlob (such as with Speedball), these are a great investment.

Yeah, that and I got hit right where the collar bones come together at the base of the neck. Shot went right under my mask and between the upturned collar of my M-65 Field Jacket.
Brigade Quartermaster, good place www.actiongear.com, that and US Calvery, between the two of them there's not much you can't get. :)A human cannonball, I rise above it all
