Scratch 0 #4 April 23, 2002 The fire was called in at 3 in the morning so nobody was around to get hurt. As for the insurance, I hope they were covered. Even so, it is the loss of earnings which is going to be the big problem.Every day above ground is a good day.

Skystorm 0 #11 April 23, 2002 I just hate people who bring others down.If they have nothing better to do with their time than setting buildings on fire, why don't they just set fire to their own p-hair and watch THAT burn.I sit here and imagine what it would be like having everyting the one minute and the next there's nothing left. I have friends in the skydiving industry, jumping for a living. Those people in CT had the same means of living and now there out of even that.I just can't believe you get people who would do something like this. I'll be thinking of everyone involved at the CT Centre.Hang onto Heaven, when hell is on your back

gale 0 #13 April 23, 2002 I'm astounded! I just can't think of what would motivate people to hurt a bunch of skydivers. We're not exactly talking about a political entity here. My thoughts are with all those hurt by this stupidity.Gale Life's not worth living if you can't feel alive
crazymel 0 #14 April 23, 2002 Oh wait!! I just had an idea (and those don't happen too often!) Since you won't be able to jump for some time, and will save some $$$ and will be craving jumping soon, why don't you join me and Skystorm in Swakop in June??? We're gonna party our boobies off!!!Life is for the LIVING!!!!!
AggieDave 6 #15 April 23, 2002 Damn, that sucks! If it was arson...man, what a day it would be if the skydivers could get their hands on them.A human cannonball, I rise above it allUp higher then a trapeze, I can fly
skybytch 273 #16 April 23, 2002 I just got this in my email at work. ---News StoryThis is a request for anyone who can help us!For many people the night of the 22nd of April, was a lifelong dream turned into a nightmare. At about 3’o clock the morning, a fire raged through the hangars of Skydive Cape Town, a local parachuting club in South Africa. As you can imagine this devastating incident has caused heartbreak to Peter Mauchen, Ronel Horne and Anton Scalabrino, the three owners of the club who have invested their life savings into this operation, not to mention the fifteen others who rely on the club for their income. As you can see by the article, all the equipment and two planes were destroyed in the fire making it impossible for them to continue running the business. Although there was insurance, this has proved insufficient to cover the replacement cost of all the equipment. What the have lost:11 Vector Tandem Rigs 12 Student Rigs Cessna 206 Cessna 182 Video Equipment A lot of privately owned rigs of members. The whole hangar I am sending this letter as an appeal to anyone out there who can help by donating either moneys, equipment or just lend a hand in the clean-up operation to help these unfortunate people to get back on their feet and help to rebuild the dream.Should you wish to contribute in any way, please contact either myself (japie.muller@engenoil.com) or Peter Mauchen (skydivecapetown@global.co.za.)Kind Regards,Japie Muller---pull & flare, lisa[subliminal msg]My website Go Now[/subliminal msg]

Scratch 0 #20 April 24, 2002 Hi y'allI ducked out of work early yesterday to go take a look at the damage. It was really freaky. All that is left of the Cessnas is the engine blocks and a powder. Looks like my lecturers were right. Under the correct conditions aluminium burns just fine.Other than that, lots of reserve pilot chute springs lying around but what was not made of steel has simply disappeared. Each rig rack has a hard housing from the cut away system draped around the back but other than that no evidence of a rig ever having been there.Btw. I do not jump at Skydive Cape Town. Skydive Citrusdal is my home DZ, it is about 100miles out of town. The Cape Town concern was a commercial DZ specialising in the tourist trade. I have friends who made their living working there. I have put in my share of jumps at SDCT though and the view is magnificent. I have attached a pic (not very good) so you can get an idea.Every day above ground is a good day.
