kevin922 0 #1 April 15, 2002 Okay.. so I was over at my riggers' house having him re-do my reserve.. and I was holding the rig for him and made a few quick "sniffs" and we both said at the same time "that smells like..... cat piss" then it hit me.. i packed my rig at my girlfriend's house a few months back and she has a cat that likes to pee on new things. Evidentally the cat pissed where my main goes (the main was obviously out) -- i have a mirage and it is linned in that area with some fabric like that found on the inside of jackets (not the same material as the outside of the rig) does anyone know any remedes to getting cat pee smell out of my container???The febreeze isn't workingKevin
TheMarshMan1 0 #2 April 15, 2002 That majorly SUCKS dude...cat piss is soo hard to get out of things. I dunno what you could use to get it out....but I'd keep at it with the Febreeze and maybe it'll disappear in a few jumps after its aired out. Goddamn cats..."If I could be like that, I would give anything, just to live one day, in those shoes..."

skymama 37 #10 April 15, 2002 You need to go to a pet supply store and get one of the products that neutralize the odor. The stuff works like a charm, way better than Febreeze. Trust me, I've had alot of practice with this subject.AndreaI'm high as a kiteI just mightStop and check you out.

Keith 0 #15 April 15, 2002 Ozium. Works great. I used to use it in my dogs bath water when she would get sprayed by skunks. She may have been the sweetest dog, but she wasn't the brightest You can find it at most stores. Keith
Engovatov 0 #16 April 16, 2002 I suggest taking your cat with you on your next skydive - let it learn how careful you need to be with your gear..If you are an animal lover in a traditional sence - you may tie an old pilot shute to the poor thing before it exits..P.S, One DZ in Russia used a dog tied to a pilot shute as a marker for jumps on rounds. It returned to the start by itself - no need to go to the field to pick your test drop.. :)P.P.S. You will get used to the smell. Soon. And will have more space for yourself on the jump plane. Pammi 0 #17 April 16, 2002 Renuzit carpet freshening foam helps a lot. There's one called Wonder Pet or some such. And you don't have to vacuum or anything, you just let it stay in, so I'd think it might work well. When I first got my Himilayan he found a 'spot' that he 'used' a couple of times before I broke him on it, and nothing else got the smell out.New pin jewelry! FallnAngel 0 #18 April 16, 2002 oh, that is nasty...cat piss is the absolute worst! I really feel sorry for you!! Ok, so there was a neighborhood cat that decided my front door was his property (absolutely disgusting!!)...the only thing that seemed to cut the odor & clean the stain he left on my door was white vinegar mixed 50/50 with water. Also, that stopped the cat from peeing there too...so that was a bonus. Hope that helps ya some!Blue skies,Karen
nacmacfeegle 0 #19 April 16, 2002 Wire a grid to the door and the doormat, hook up a tractor battery, put out some catnip, and get the video camera 'cos the cat won't ever piss there again....Allegedly, I've never tried it myself....CyaD
airann 1 #20 April 16, 2002 Well, we were talking about stuff like this (sorta) on Sat at the dz....I had another brilliant idea and nobody gets hurt. Levin has already gone thru the List of Ways to take out a cat....His Dad took one out twice with a canopy made of a curtain or something. Then one guy wanted to do it, and threw out the 'canopy' first and by the 3rd time the cat kinda figured it didnt look too good for him so he scratched the guy from shoulder to tip of finger. Levin said that after that the cat kinda limped and then it got ran over by a car. Inside a l liter plastic bottle put small cat with some little peanuts.... not for treats... packing peanuts.. or bubble wrap. Shut the door on him and duct tape him to tandem slot and away you go. (poke holes for air.)About cat urine. It is the worst to get rid of that almost anything else besides Bobcat urine, ask my mother I brought home just about everything.....Febreeze will only temp. mask it. Their are products available to neutralize your problem. Just dont get the urine on anything else like your canopy. (and i have heard that this has indeed happened before) One thing is always when you get a cat get it spayed or neutered at first possible moment before they get the idea stuff needs to be marked. Hisgoofyness- I have a Great Dane and he has never done anything in the house. I create trained him and he is very smart. If he hop and dropped here in the house now at 2 years... I would need a front end loader to get that hauled out. As it is when his feet get muddy... you just let it dry and sweep it up or vaucme it up. As for little pet stains on carpet or Root Beer stains- Oxy Clean is working at my house.Oxy clean may be another option to your smell issue. I havent tried it on urine issues because I dont have any. Even with 9 cats. =5 kittens, Oscar (outside cat except with kittens) Target and Monster are part time cats, and Sister who was raised with Flea inside/outside cat.Ann ~ www.AirAnn.comAnyone want a Kitten? billo 0 #21 April 16, 2002 oh my god that is some nasty stuff! i really don't know what smells worse than cat piss...i don't know what would be worse - getting it on your main or container. i have a friend who had a cat that pissed on his BRAND SPANKIN NEW (ok so 1 weekend of jumps on it) vengenence. jesus h almost one year later the thing still reeks and he has tried alot of the stuff i've seen mentioned in this thread. cat piss just ain't natural! think about how you lay down on your main when you are packing, your nose right in it...my buddy offers 10 for packing his main and NO ONE will do it. i started once but then hung it on a hook and then dry heaved for awhile. sick sick sick...makes me start to rethink of moving in with my new roommate next month who has a cat. good luck man, just keep an eye on the "infected" area and make sure it doesn't cause any long term damage to the rig...woof

neural9 0 #23 April 16, 2002 When I was on hols with a load of mates in the states, a packer was letting her new kitten hang about the place. Unfortunately the kitten had bowel problems and relieved itself in Paul's canopy while it was laid out to pack. He only recognised the problem after he deployed. We had an interesting afternoon with shed loads of paper towells and disgusted spectators. hehe. The manufacturer was superb in their dealings with the problem and the DZ bought the canopy off him. All merit due to the DZ and manufacturer.Rob/n9
kevin922 0 #24 April 16, 2002 QuoteOne thing is always when you get a cat get it spayed or neutered at first possible moment before they get the idea stuff needs to be marked. both cats are so are both dogs. Kylie, the female australian cattle dog felt it was necessary to hump my leg shortly after I moved in - the doctor said she was trying to show who was boss in the household, another thing that one would think would be gone when they are fixed. :)So no name brands? I'm a little leary of the vinegar / water solution.. don't want my rig stinking another stink. Will check into the vet solution and maybe go to petsmart and sniff around. You're the pet person - what do you think?Kevinhttp://www.interone.net
kevin922 0 #25 April 16, 2002 Oh and on another note, I forgot to point out the other added benefit of having a cat piss on your gear.DZ Cats! Our DZ has more animals than a zoo (including the skydivers of course) running around. (I can't say I'm not partially at fault, I bring tank out with me but he stays in the car and comes out to say hi between jumps) anyway... someone brought it to my attention the other cats at the DZ (who were sniffing my rig) will smell cat A. and piss in the same spot to mark their territory.GRRRREEEAATTTHaven't had that happen YET but only went to the DZ once since i got peed on.
