SkymonkeyONE 4 #1 April 10, 2002 I just found out yesterday that Jari and Kim from BirdMan are going to be at a CASA boogie at ASC in Cedartown, Georgia from 26-28 April. I am very tempted to go down and hang out/coach with them. Anyone else in the area considering going? I will probably just drive down and stay with Hans Paulson or either drive my RV down; not sure yet. At any rate, this would be a good time to hook up and skydive. The way they have it listed, there will be 30-way RW attempts, freefly coaching, as well as the BirdMan instruction and coaching which I have already mentioned. ChromeBoy 0 #2 April 10, 2002 I might make it. ASC is where I was trained and I have a lot of family in Atlanta. Hans Paulson did some of my IAF jumps with me. He is a great instructor. Have they expanded the landing area yet? Last time I was there they had removed a lot of the power lines and I believe they were beginning to add more landing space. SkymonkeyONE 4 #3 April 10, 2002 Personally, I am no fan of ASC, but I am willing to go down there to hang out with Hans, plus help coach with Jari and Kim. The uneven terrain is not very conducive to swooping, but that is not the purpose of my visit; it's all about the boogie. My webpage HERE

ChromeBoy 0 #8 April 11, 2002 This leads me back to my previous thread of Dropzone Business Management. I hope this post does not go without any responses. I know a lot of us believe that ASC has backstabbed some of the competitive dropzones in the area through marketing and direct sales. To a point where a lot of people will not ever jump there anymore. I personally was one of those people. What you really have to remember is that skydiving, like business, is a competitive sport. If someone opens a dropzone it is unlikely they will have a huge return on investment if they even make money. I am not talking about some of the largests dz's out there...ie; Perris, Elsinore, etc.ASC does have good instructors and a good mix of disciplines for skydivers to participate in. Ben and Cary may have exhausted every means necessary to make their dz out in the middle of nowhere successful but they also had investors who wanted it to be run like that. They took a small airport and turned it into the headquarters for the Regional NSL meets as well as a numerous airplane experience. Whether it is Mullins King Air (or his kids jumping at this dz year around), the Frankenotter, Skyvan's, Casa's etc. anyone who stays out of all the political ownership bullshit can and will have a good time at this dz. They may not own planes but they have a wide variety on any given weekend.Summary, stay out of the political business aspect and enjoy the jumping. SkymonkeyONE 4 #9 April 11, 2002 UPDATE: Jari and Kim will not be there. Steve-O and Baxter will be there in their stead. I am not sure I will make it now as my prime directive was mainly to hang out with Jari and Kim. I will make another decision after he writes me back and says whether or not I will have work there.ChuckMy webpage HERE
PhreeZone 20 #10 April 11, 2002 Politics go hand and hand with jumping... if you try you delude your self into thinking that they don't... then thats just being nieve. Look at Coolidge and SDAZ.... lawsuits are costing Mike money so he has to raise ticket prices. One of the DZ's here in Ohio is advertising on the radio to a city thats over 2 hours away, while there is a little DZ just 15 minutes away from said city. The little DZ might have to raise ticket prices to all jumpers to be able to advertise more just to stay open. That affects all fun jumpers there and leaves a bad taste in some of their mouths...I know of a DZ thats been open for a long time and I've never saw them in the 3 years I've been in the sport directly or indirectly harm another competitor. Actually they used to loan money and planes out to jumpers that wanted to open their own DZ's else where. The DZO has a gret family and every one knows that if they really want to jump/fly/what ever but are broke... just talk to the DZO and he'll work something out with you. I've seen another DZ point business to another DZ since they would be closed when the tandems wanted to jump. This DZ plays nice and I enjoy my time jumping there.Point being... it does'nt have to be a cut throat businees and all jumpers are involved in politics from the moment they make their first jump...."Hey.. Its my camera, and my remote... I'll rewind if I want to!" ~ Goat #
Dutchboy 0 #11 April 12, 2002 My reasons for not jumping there aren't as simple as backstabbing business practices. While such things might annoy me, they don't directly effect my safety & jumping experience. I would consider going to a boogie at any of the other 3 DZ's serving metro Atlanta. The DutchboyPhil's Flying Enterprises, Inc.
freeflir29 0 #12 April 12, 2002 ***I know a lot of us believe that ASC has backstabbed some of the competitive dropzones***It's not even the fact of what they do to other DZ's. Which really doesn't affect them that much truth be told. It's the really shitty things they do to customers that bothers me. Plain and simple. "It's all about the BOOBIES!"
