Viking 0 #1 April 8, 2002 As you may or may not know i just got home, from my trip to Nocal. When i walked in the house, my brother informed me that while my grandma was taking the dog out to do her thing, that the dog lurtched forward and pulled her to the ground. She fell on her left arm. She has a large bruise down the length of her forarm, and extensive swelling from her knuckles to about mid forearm. She says it doesn't hurt unless she trys to use it (get out of a chair, hold a glass of water, or put any amount of weight on it). She is 92 and i need to know if its just a bad sprain, or somthing worse. Thanx for the help guys. diverdriver 5 #2 April 8, 2002 I would get her to a doctor ASAP. You don't know if she has a small fracture in that arm. Don't want to be alarming but if she's swelling up as you seem to make it sound get her to a Doc.
AggieDave 6 #3 April 8, 2002 ANY seemingly small bump, fall, etc with elderly people could be a very big deal. Get her to a doc and get her checked out. Much better to have a false alarm and be safe, then to let it go and find out it was something much much worst later on."Homer Simpson, smiling politely." Viking 0 #4 April 8, 2002 My brother already tried to get her to go the er, but she HATES going to the Doc. She is just as hardheaded as my late grandpa.I swear you must have footprints on the back of your helmet - chicagoskydiver
AggieDave 6 #5 April 8, 2002 So whats your point? Not to be harsh, but make her go!"Homer Simpson, smiling politely."
Viking 0 #6 April 8, 2002 Making her go will just make her mad, and to be honest the only person she really listens to is my mom. I swear you must have footprints on the back of your helmet - chicagoskydiver
Michele 1 #7 April 8, 2002 Viking, I know how big you are. Tell her too bad, let her be angry, and bundle her into the car and take her in. Sometimes, you have to not care what someone thinks, if you're doing it in their best interest.Old bones are fragile bones. Old people break really easily. If she fell, she needs to be looked at by a professional. Something obviously got hurt, or she would be able to use that arm.Do it, Viking. dove 0 #8 April 8, 2002 My grandparents are also in their 90's (93 and 95) and have both broken bones in the last few years. (Grandma - hip and then pelvis... grandpa - hip) Not only do they HATE going to the ER but it is a lot of work for them too... Find a doctor who will do housecalls. There are plenty out there - especially for geriatric patients. Please get her checked out either way. She needs medical attention - even if just for peace of mind. My love and prayers to you and her!dove

airann 1 #12 April 9, 2002 Vik, I commend you on your very good care of your Grandmother. You have a big heart and a good man. Some times you gotta just grab Granny by the blue hairs and get her to go. Tell her you ar going to WalMart or to get some ice cream or to the 5 and dime. Or to get coffee at the hospital. I dont know. But such a good boy you are, now I just hope Levin takes as good of care of me as you do now that your grandma is older.Ha! Viking 0 #13 April 9, 2002 oh ya not trying to brag or anything but when i was in Old town Sacramento we found this AWSOME old record shop called Brooks Novelty Antiques and Records. Its wall to wall (including the ceiling) of nothing but old and New LP's!!!!!!!! including a shit load of 45's. well my mom is a big Paul Horn fan and i found two Albums she has been trying to find for years!!! i didn't have any money on me, so i put myself in dept $35 to buy them for her. I can't wait to give them to her. I get a kick out of making her happy.
