Worst Fucking DZ attitude

Friendly reminder of how complacency hurts.
disclaimer. I have been guilty of all of these..have you? :(
1. I have to hook..that guy is going to cut me off I will wait and then hook.....
2. Look at those people I'm really going to hook it this time.
3. winds aren't that bad fuck it...I jump an FX....
4. Yeah, I'm safe...yeah I see where your coming from safe...uuhuuhhh. yep..I understand... yeah dude I always have an out.....I've done that before..don't worry about me..
If you read this months parachutist you might know that fatalities under canopy have been on the rise in the past 10 years.
If you have spent a couple of years on a busy DZ with an aggressive "canopy" atmosphere" you mioght have seen a few mishaps (ankle, broken back, femurs....totally busted up and horribly mangled.....moaning in pain...'your ok dude...talk to me...the doctors coming ..hold on...")
Take your time plan your outs. listen to experieinced jumpers...if you jump on a po-dunk DZ...go spend some time at a big one and talk to some healthy experienced jumpers.
Put ego aside and listen.
what if you woke up tomorrw with no memory of what the hell happened except that you are paralyzed and someone said you turned low.
:(
I't is not a giant Redbull acid party festival.."WOOOHOOO LOOK AT MEEE!!!.

OMG, Ramon......
That's heavy.....people get hurt....
We see it unfortunately more common this year than last, but then again thats just my Point of View-POV.
...for my own sake and the sake of my friends, there are some areas in my skydiving I need to take care of. ....

I hear you ramon. As a newbie I get people telling me all the time how I need to downgrade to a smaller canopy when I don't really have a desire to. I like the security that a larger canopy gives me. Seems to me, no matter how good you are, if you jump a handkerchief and screw up just once you could get really hurt. I doubt I'll ever transition to a small high performance canopy b/c of that but who knows...

This must be a common thread amoung DZs. I was told to get a Tri 135 or a Safire 135 and then I was looked at funny when I said "No bloody way!" (I weigh 140, 57 jumps, all on Mantas). Of course one had a Tri 135 for sale...nothing to do with it. Sure.
A 150 will do fine for the next 200 jumps thank you.

I remember one day when I was still flying my Tri 150 (which made hardly any penetration into the wind) and I landed off. Not far off - just across the dirt road in a huge clear area. I walked back to the packing area and 2 VERY experienced jumpers said "hey - what's up with that? Why did you land off?" Maybe I could have made it back but it would have been close and I would have had to cut over some buildings. Why take a chance when the huge open field below me is a 100% deal? I know, God forbid I should have to walk across the one-lane dirt road!

I'm a newbie and I land by the idea that you don't fly over anything you don't want to land on. And congratulations to those people who have said "no" to downgrading to canopies they weren't ready for. It's your life, stay safe. And to others: don't try to pressure people!!! How would you feel if they took your bad advice and hurt themselves, not so cool then, is it?

Same thing happenend to me.
Got a sponsorship and wanted to buy a 170 ZP EXE (SA manufactured) b/c I felt safe with it. But so many tried to bullying me in to buying a Heatwave 150 or even a Heatwave 135. Some of them even got mad at me for not buying what they wanted....
For my height and weight the 135 should be an excellent choice, but not now. The 170 just have to do for at least 200 jumps. Then, when I could fly the shit out of it and land it under any circumstances, I would down size to a smaller canopy.
Hang onto Heaven, when hell is on your back;)
