I dont seem to find a post about Skreamers Weekend

Recommended Posts

Not anymore I'm not.... :D
Say, Mikey, do you think I'm being "pushed away from the sport" too? Or do you think maybe they just grounded me because I did something very stupid and nobody wants to see me get hurt?
Seeing as Mikey wants this posted on the internet, I'll oblige :
Sunday afternoon last load (low lob from the Cessna, just for a change). The jump master (Steve Park) and I were going to do a rodeo from about '5 000. We spent a bit of quality time in the plane (detour over the M40 and then haze). We start coming in on jump run, I move out into the door and am sitting poised (as in a student SL exit, hand holding eitherside of the door). The agreed signal for the rodeo was that Steve would shake my container when he was ready.
Here's where I made my screw up : Steve saw me poised in the door and thought I was going to jump, so he grabbed the top of my container and pulled - I then thought this was the signal to go and went WITHOUT first looking down.....
It was classic 'WTF???' stuff, looked down and saw a village, looked back up at the plane and saw some rather bewildered faces (I was really MILES short of the DZ...). I then pulled straight away and spent some very very lonely time under canopy thinking about what would be waiting for me on the ground.....
The out was easy because there is a lot of farmland around there. One of the DZ owners picked me up and had a small chat on the drive back. Then when I got back the DZ controller and CCI had another *chat* with me - they were under the impression that I had just dived out of the plane pretty much for the fun of it...
Anyway, long story short : I got grounded for the rest of the weekend and next weekend.
*Luckily* the JM had his camera turned on, so the CCI told me later that they understood that it was an honest miscommunication between us and that I hadn't done it wilfully (sheesh as if I'd wish that kind of humiliation on myself...). Another bummer was that the JM (who is a good friend) got grounded too....
Oh well, I'm still 14 groundings and a cypres fire behind you, Mikey.... (but at least I've got just as many BASE jumps as you!!:)Will
PS that was my 8th jump of the weekend

Skreamer,
Sounds like a miscommunication, as you said.
I had something similar in a way happen once. Although we only missed the DZ by about 150 yards, it was annoying. It was a 3-way tube and we were waiting for a verbal cue from the videographer who was better able to spot. We weren't positioned to see out the door very well. A tandem master in the front of the plane yelled "Go!" and out we went...

I only missed the DZ by about 4 miles..... :$
AND all the vidiots from the DZ are now lining up to get copies of the footage to include in the DZ's annual video (if you are not me, it is actually quite funny to watch....)

Hey Boet
As jy dom is sal jy kak.
No worries.
One day I will tell you a story about a Mi8 and getting chucked out somewhere over the warmbaths. I did not look down that day either;):D

LMFAO
You guys crack me up (ass-holes....;))
Seriously though, I did find it quite hard to swoop with my freefly pants around my ankles. Maybe I should ask Chuck or Clay for some canopy control advice on swooping into sheep pastures with your pants around your ankles.... :D

Damn......the British folks are pretty anal about stuff aren't they. That would have been recived with a hearty laugh here in the States. Grounding? For that? Skreamer.....you need to get the hell out of there and come do some real skydiving. Tubes, hoola hoops, and whatever else looks cool on video. :)"I'm a danger to myself and everyone around me!"-Clay

Remind me to never skydive in England. Seems I would only get in one jump before they kicked me off the DZ....:D Skreamer.......you have to use pants with velcro down the sides so you can remove them quickly. Swoop the sheep.....grab it with your legs and then throw the harness on her!!!! :D
