billvon 2,991 #10 March 30, 2002 Never could understand the whole attempt to look like, smell like, sound like and be like someone else. Women seem to do this more than men - I know of women who are actually uncomfortable with the way their faces look, the way they smell, their hair. They go to great lengths to create a superficial persona that has all the right ingredients - the hair that looks like movie star X, the makeup that makes them look older or younger or sexier, the perfume that makes them smell funny. Then they go out, and get annoyed when they meet superficial people - after they themselves spent an hour creating such a person. To each his own, I guess. In a way I'm sort of lucky to have that kind of a filter. I find I can't stand superficial people, and if I see someone with a ton of makeup and hair that nature never intended, I know to move on. Same thing with guys to a lesser degree. Lots of jewelry, hair gel, cologne, and I know what most of the conversations will be like before anyone says word one.-bill von

Viking 0 #13 March 30, 2002 you didn't answer the question billy boy. But i do agree with your on the whole superficial thing. Ya there sometimes nice to look at, but jesus you could tell them that your about to throw a rock at them, and then they wonder why there eye hurts. I tend to like the girls that look awsome without doing much. That natural glow that doesn't require six layers of walefat. heathmor 0 #14 March 30, 2002 That's cool; but to some that is who they are, they are not trying to be any one other than thmselves. The stars are them and the want-to-bee's are trying to be them. A persons appearance does not always define the sole. But the sole defines the person. BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH!!!! If your not living on the edge; Your taking up too much space!!! bbarnhouse 0 #17 March 30, 2002 ode de natural.......because I am "environmentally sensitive" fragrances can actually induce an asthmatic episode. Ever get behind one of the ladies at the super market that has so much perfume on that you can actually taste it? UG!It only takes a little pixie dust...... PLFXpert 0 #18 March 30, 2002 I wear Victoria's Secret Angels "Heavenly" fragrance occasionally.Billy Von~~Your definition of superficial seems a little extreme. I don't do anything to my hair but I enjoy wearing some makeup and spritzing on something I like the smell of. I don't think that makes me, or any other woman who does the same thing, superficial. I love what God gave me. I like wearing mascara b/c my eye lashes are blonde and I think it brings out the color in my eyes. I like wearing perfume because almost everyone, excluding yourself, enjoys things that smell nice. Haven't you ever lit candles because you enjoy how they smell? Do you consider that a superficial item because it changes the natural smell of your room?To each their own is what I believe as well. It seems to me, women can not win either way. If they fix themselves up, men say, "Why don't you spend less time getting ready?" and if women never take any time to fix themselves up, men say, "Why don't you dress up once in a while?" Maybe you are the exception and bravo if you are. I just feel your definition of superficial is a bit extreme. It takes me an extra 15 minutes after I get out of the shower to put a little makeup on and spray some perfume. It's not like I spent thousands of dollars having my lips enhanced or breasts enhanced or fat sucked out. And hey, if there's women who want to do that, that's fine too. I really don't care either way. I think whatever makes you happy, go for itSorry for the lecture. Muenkel 0 #19 March 30, 2002 Calvin Klein Eternity for me.I always like when someone has a fragrance that they stick to and it really becomes their scent. So whenever you smell that scent you think of that person. My pet peeve: When someone uses cologne or perfume to mask B.O. Iflyme 0 #21 March 30, 2002 I'm with Bill on this one -- also, there are many people who are sensitive, or even allergic to the various chemicals that go into perfume... Let's face it -- if you spend money on fragrance, you've been "sold" by huge corporations that create an artifical need for their product with expansive marketing campaigns... the same with make-up, designer clothing, etc... nobody needs any of it... Of course, that's just my opinion, and I'm sure you have yours..."There's nothing new under the sun"

MiataDRM 0 #23 March 30, 2002 Never knew fragrances could draw such a philisophical response----------------------------------------------------No kidding! WOW...I like wearing cologne or smelling a woman w/ a sexy perfume for the same reason I stop to smell a flower, or the love of salty crisp air on the beach. We just like the feeling of our senses (smell, taste, auditory tactal or visual)...same reason why we spend 20 on a CD for music to stimulate our brain or 20 for a slot to jump to have fun. AYE....How the hell did I get sucked into this conversation!!!![coo] **I'm a Pschydiver!Majdi
Schroeder 0 #24 March 30, 2002 PLFExpert,You said that hey, if it makes you happy, do it! I for the most part agree, but wouldn't it be worth asking sometimes: _Why_ does this make me happy? In the case of make-up, if on the one hand you have a person that is Happy about their appearence with it on, then logically, you'd think they'd be un-happy without it (regarding their appearence.) And, if that's true then, that'd mean that the make up _is_ creating a superficial effect. I'm sorry, but I agree with Bill on this one, sometimes, the application, and the _level_ of application speaks to something else about the person. I'll admit, I know a hundred excellent people who wear make-up, some to cover 'flaws' or to 'highlight', but in each case, it does mention something about their insecurities, once you get to know them (which popular media is perpetuating, IMHO). And insecurities don't make a person good or bad, or keep a person from being perfect, because we all have them."If I ventured in the slipstream; Between the via-ducts of your dreams.......could you find me?" Donna 0 #25 March 30, 2002 I'm incredibly allergic to most perfumes. I get instant headaches. I hate when you get all settled in the movie theater and some woman comes in loaded with perfume and plops near you and you have to move. I do like when someone has recently showered and has that clean shampoo smell. There are a couple of very light "fruity" sprays that aren't too bad. Like if a minute or so after someone walks by and you get a faint whiff that's cool but when you can smell them coming.... YUCK! It drives me crazy when I go to the gym and these women all decked out and reeking of perfume come in and climb on the elliptical trainer next to me and you're breathing heavy and dying for oxygen and you take in a big breath and start choking from the stench. As for make up I wear a little blush and some mascara and maybe eyeliner on special nights but keep me away from the pancake mask and lip stick etc. It's just not me. If others want to wear it that's fine because unlike perfume it doesn't physically bother me. Dressing up for me is wearing my jeans without holes and my black sneakers. I like men in jeans, T's and sneakers, clean smelling with naturally messy hair. Hair combed to perfection and/or with gel and dressy clothes and shoes and colognes and I look right past them attraction wise. Blue Skies,D
