So, there's this cyber stalker, see....

Recommended Posts

It would seem that I have a, well, cyber stalker.
Found out from a friend that there is this guy who has been posting for the last 5 or 6 years about me. He lives here in CA, and is, shall we say, certifiable. According to this guy, I am a great business woman (true), am secretly married to him (not true), has described me (accurate mostly), and knows that I am a realtor, work in Burbank, and that my father has been on his favorite t.v. show. He has described how we met at Temple (I have not been to his temple, nor do I attend a Temple of my own.) He has not mentioned skydiving (proves to me I don't know him. LOL). He has my full name and the correct spelling for my entire name (including middle name, which is not something which I have out there).
Some of his posts talk about his therapist and psychiatrist recommending Paxil and Thorazine and various other medications. Other posts talk about me and him and our travels to Paris and London and Hawaii (have been to London and Paris, not Hawaii, and I did not travel with him). Still others describe an idyllic home life, where he takes care of the kids while I usher in World Peace at the United Nations (I don't have a problem talking in public, and have visited the UN on the public tour, but that's about it). He has me solving all the world's problems, feeding the hungry, and clothing the naked. WIsh I could, but haven't, at least as of yet.
Now, for the life of me, I do not know this guy. I have never met him to my knowledge, and don't frequent the palces he mentions (San Onofre and Diablo Nuclear plant, for one, Frenzy Cafe another).
I have to admit, I have been more than a little shaken by this; I own a weapon, and it has come out of it's drawer. I called the FBI, but they are not interested (nor am I sure I want them involved - what can they do, after all?). The local pd does not have an internet crime unit. So, now what?
I am more than a little discombobulated and disconcerted. Any advice?

Damn. Last time we discussed this I told you to contact the police. Glad you did, too bad they won't help you.
I'd suggest next you contact a lawyer. Not because you want the lawyer to do anything, but because you want the lawyer to explain what the law says. The lawyer could tell you if what this guy is doing is even illegal.
I don't know what realtor you work for, but if it's a bigger one, they may have a legal support plan you could buy into. I had this at my larger employers, it was basically the law equivalent of health insurance.
If you can't afford a lawyer, I would imagine you could discuss it with a womens support organization. It might not be exactly what you're looking for, but they should be able to point you in the right direction.
I do know that you need to do SOMETHING. This story just sends shivers up my spine.

Michele, Dont really have any advice on what you should do, but at least hes making you out to be a good person!!! I mean everything hes said about you is in a positive way!! However I'd still be a little wierded out!! I really dont know what else you could do besides letting the local authorities know.....maybe do a little investigating yourself to see if you can find any info on this guy and his whereabouts!!

I just went a looked a bunch of that stuff up on Google Groups. Creepy. Is he doing this across state lines? If he is, I'd badger the FBI, otherwise contact the state or county police about it. California has enough wierdos that they should have some sort of Internet crime unit.

Michele... I've looked into what you are seeing and this guy has flipped. He's out there... If your local police or FBI will not help you after you ask a second time forcefully... Let me know... I'll use any contacts I've got to get this in front of some law enforcement that cares.....
I wish you would step back from that ledge my friend... ~3EB

that's scary. Do you have an alarm system? or at least a big bat next to your bed? Sorry, not trying to scare you. That is just freaky. I wonder if stalker laws could apply here?

have I mis-read alot of posts on here or do we have some pretty 'talented' computer people here? Can some one do their best to trace the guy, at least by IP, and somehow figure out his proximity to her? If he's across the nation, michele might be a little more at ease. Also, it might help her ID the guy. Just a thought to help out a family member.

I am starting to really wonder about the world out there.

No, just California, the rest of the country is fairly ok...well, maybe not the entire rest of the country, but Texas is doing well and that's just about all that matters...;):D
