algboy 0 #26 March 18, 2002 "Coconino Plateau,, starts west of Flagstaff and runs almost to New Mexico,, one of the largest Ponderosa Pines stands in the country"FYI. the world's *largest* contiguous ponderosa pine forests surrounds us here in Flagstaff, AZAlso, if you see the "big hole" (G Canyon) you *gotta* hike--if only for an hour or so--below the rim. It's a whole new experience. Don't do the Chevy Chase "Vacation" thang: [look left--look right] "Alright kids, gotta go!" ;-)You've missed out if you don't stop by Sedona (red rock country) home of the "woo-woos", tooAnd yes--Arizona rocks!"You're not drunk if you can lie on the floor without holding on." Vallerina 2 #27 March 18, 2002 Okay, so the tree incident everyone's been askin about: the spot we had was okay and all (everyone was able to make it to the actual landing area, but my Falcon doesn't have much glide to it, so I landed a little off in the desert.) There were a bunch of bushes and junk everywhere, so I picked a clearing with only one slightly larger "bush" near it. Turns out that bush was actually a tree. After my feet touched the ground, the winds picked up and blew my large canopy and myself to the tree. Oops. I learned from it, though! Yes, it was very sad to fly back into Midway. I take comfort in knowing that summer is right around the corner, though! I hope to see AZ again soon (I heard collegiates is there next year, maybe I can be the old creepy woman hitting on all the young college men!)
