Soph11 0 #1 March 8, 2014 Hello. I'm looking at a new Mirage. I have a crossfire 114, 500 jumps, and will buy whatever reserve will fit in whatever sized container I end up getting. I originally though of an MT as they state the optimum fit is for a 119 crossfire. Mirage have told me that an MX will be a good fit for my canopy though. I'm thinking that the 114 will be tight ish, so I can downsize, I will want a cross brace in this rig eventually. Obviously mirage know what they are talking about, so I will prob end up ordering a MX, I just want to know if people have experience of similar combinations, what worked, what reserve etc. Thanks :-)

If you haven't yet - you will eventually need to use one. Having the best possible reserve for your needs has nothing to do with whatever container...you're shopping backwards. Much of your question doesn't really make a lotta sense - a manufacturer wanting to sell you a rig told you that your canopy is a good fit...? Gee I bet ANY manufacturer has a rig to sell that's a PERFECT fit. Everyone I know buying a new rig is more worried about how well the rig fits THEM not some canopy...what am I missing? ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
Soph11 0 #5 March 9, 2014 They know I'll be getting a mirage either way, I just need to decide if I get MX or MT. All I was asking was about combinations that people may have used. I know everybody has their opinions but that's not what I was asking. I'll be getting measured for a new rig so I'm kinda hoping that will address the fitting concerns... mattjw916 2 #6 March 9, 2014 I've had a couple Mirages and I would err on the larger size if you are packing in a dry climate and/or planning on putting new canopies in there at some point. Packing two "optimal" size canopies with an AAD installed in a dry area yields a tight rig. I'd go with the MT (which coincidentally is the size of my next container) because you can put a bigger reserve in it. Depending on which reserve you plan on putting in it the max suspended weight could come into play for the very small sizes. That's one number I'd never exceed.NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

Titanman2789 0 #8 March 9, 2014 I'd go with the MX. I've packed a velo 103 in an MX and seen my buddy jump a katana 120 in an MX. Both were tight but you can do it. I own an MX and have jumped a velo 84 in it. Wouldn't say it's too loose. A 79 would probably start to feel pretty loose but you could probably make that work as well. Soph11 0 #9 March 9, 2014 Thanks guys, Matt, out of interest, what canopies are you going to put in your MT?
stayhigh 2 #10 March 9, 2014 MT can fit any from velo 84 to katana 120.Bernie Sanders for President 2016
mjosparky 4 #11 March 9, 2014 Terry is right, buying whatever reserve will fit is not the way to pick your last chance. I think it may have a typo on your part, Icarus does not make a 114 anything. In the MX model the largest canopy they list is 107. The MT, like you said lists a Crossfire 119 as perfect and it will allow for a larger reserve. But it is your call. stayhigh 2 #12 March 9, 2014 best bet would be getting mx with op 126 and cramm 119 for the time being. And you better downsize quick because shoving 119 worth of material into 107 bag would get old quickly.Bernie Sanders for President 2016
mattjw916 2 #13 March 9, 2014 Soph11Thanks guys, Matt, out of interest, what canopies are you going to put in your MT? Probably a OP126 and Nitron 120 unless the new Zulu wins me over when I get a chance to jump one.NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
Soph11 0 #14 March 9, 2014 It is a 114, not a typo. And it's NZ Aerosports, not Icarus. You can get a canopy made in any size you want. That is my whole point of the question. If I had a 119 I would get an MT no questions asked. But I have a 114 which is in between sizes.

jacketsdb23 49 #16 March 10, 2014 I've put everything from a xfire 119 to a Velo 96,84,79, and a Petra 79 (all sail) in my G3 MT. I don't like the fact that is says "requires very skilled rigger" for the optimum 143 reserve (MT), so I go with the 126. I don't know why you'd want a smaller reserve than that.Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy. Titanman2789 0 #17 March 14, 2014 Velo 96 - which packs bigger than a katana 107 - fits very nice in an MX.
RoryJ 0 #18 March 16, 2014 Even easier/better: decide what canopies you want, tell Mirage, and let THEM decide what is the best fit. Also, ask your rigger, as that is the person that will have to fight that brand new rig.Not again!
