ChromeBoy 0 #27 March 16, 2002 Hard to tell because pictures are not anything like being physically there. Don't know the actual size square miles of the airport. - It's just a couple of broken vertebrea. Have some pain killers.
PalmettoTiger 1 #28 March 16, 2002 Here's the link to the picture, there's a scale along the bottom. If you're just trying to get an idea and don't need the actual scale, it looks to me like runway R-3 is 9/10ths of a mile from tip to tip and R-1 is 1.5 miles from tip to tip. (Can't tell you how many inches on your monitor = 1 mile because of different monitor sizes and resolutions, sorry.)PTigerI'm stepping through the doorAnd I'm floating in a most peculiar way

PalmettoTiger 1 #30 March 16, 2002 hehehe... d'OH! Um, just ignore those labels then and pretend I knew what was going on. Shows you how much I know about airports... the only ones I visit on a regular basis have ONE runway. freeflir29 0 #32 March 16, 2002 I think I used to go to class in Hangar #2. Not positive though...That was in 1991. The altitude of that pic is a couple hundred miles. Terraserver uses sattellite photos some down to 1 meter. I was screwing around on there at work a couple years ago and thought it strange that you couldn't get pics of Pope AFB but you can get 1 meter photos (Good enough to see what kind of cars are in the parking lot) of the "Building that doesn't exist" on Ft. Bragg. *shrug* "I only have a C license, so I don't know shit..right?"-Clay

Dutchboy 0 #34 March 16, 2002 So, are you going to fly up to the WFFC this year? Of course, you'd have to finish that pilot license first. The DutchboyPhil's Flying Enterprises, Inc.
freeflir29 0 #35 March 16, 2002 QuoteOf course, you'd have to finish that pilot license first.Hey...I'm workin on it! Uncle Sugar has me tasked out lately. Taking up my free time dammitt. I did get my CD-ROM test prep though and that is helping. I'm not all that worried about finishing the flying portion until I get the damn test out of the way. I hate buying maps and directories that I only use 1 or 2 times before they expire. Snowwhite 0 #38 March 17, 2002 Just a quick note to let you all know that the World Free Fall Convention webpage is up and running ( at least parts of it are)www. freefall.com Michael has been working on getting the thing going, and after all of us playing around with all of the new possibilities for message boards, we decided we liked the old one best. As all of the latest and greatest is added to the Convention, it will be added to the website.

apoil 0 #40 March 18, 2002 QuoteRoy... did you get all the facts on the Jet? Its sure don't sound like you have the whole story, just the one that most jumpers believe. ie rec.'s version... The '99 jet was close, just fell though late. The problem with '99 was that the Jet was advertised, and tickets were sold.If it was only "close" why was the announcement that it wouldn't be there made at sunset the night before? The answer to that is simple, because management (Don) firmly believed the deal would be closed - but also because letting people know that there was any doubt might mean some folks wouldn't show or would leave early. Some folks come from all over the world specifically to jump the jet. They got hosed. Never mind the Jet. Sometimes bad luck happens.I had a hard-on to jump the Super Connie. In '98 it was advertised. Come wednesday (the scheduled day) I asked manifest when it would be there - "oh they couldn't make it... something about insurance"ok bummer. In '99 it was advertised. Hey great, I'll get to jump it this year, last year must have been a weird fluke. No show. No announcement. In '00 it was still advertised. Now I'm thinking they are just too lazy to accurately update their website. But then solicitations went out over rec. asking who is interested in jumping the connie so they can schedule the appropriate number of days. I'm thinking yes, this is the year I can finally do it, so I sent my email to theconnie@freefall.com explaining how badly I want to jump this historic aircraft and how I'd gladly make several jumps from it.Come the convention, guess what? No connie, and not even a courtesy email to the people who expressed interest saying "sorry it couldn't make it this year" And from what I hear, the Save A Connie foundation never had any intention of providing this aircraft to the convention in any of those years. Now the convention has been moved to a new location and there's barely enough time to get the facilities together. Is there any commitment in this new location to have the cops lay off? Will it be a fun and free environment? I don't know, and I'm not going to go there to find out. apoil 0 #41 March 18, 2002 QuoteSo the only thing that isn't under construction is a message board from last year?"under construction" icons are probably on the top ten lists of awful webdesign.Put anything there but that. All you do is advertise that you don't have your shit together.and of course number one on the list is popups, which makes most people want to strangle you. GET RID OF THEM.There's nothing on that web page that requires fancy javascript, other than an overzealous page designer. And if the info can't be browsed (as in prior years) without java/javascript then you are excluding people.
