divejunky 0 #1 March 15, 2002 I need help rationalizing a decision. I have enough money to buy a nice used rig. I would also like to go to the wffc this year. This same money could also help me log almost 100 hrs of flying time I need to get my commercial pilot rating. Are there any skydiver/pilots here that understand my problem? Or anyone else? GrumpySmurf 0 #2 March 15, 2002 I am not a pilot, nor do I play one on TV...but will the commericial license put you into a job that will provide money to then buy a rig and go to the WFFC? Or will the rig and trip to the WFFC put you into the funds needed to get the commercial license?
Spy38W 0 #3 March 15, 2002 Hrm, as a commercial pilot this IS a tough one.. if I had to go back and choose (I got my commercial/CFI ratings before I discovered skydiving) I'm not sure what I would do.
lazerq3 0 #4 March 15, 2002 (responcible mind) Go get your licence, get a good paying job, then get your skydiving in gear!!!!!!(skydivers mind) Fuck the Licence .....LETS JUMP!!!!!Tough call........jason
GroundZero 0 #5 March 15, 2002 JUMP!simple... Sitting in an airplane holding the yoke and aiming it thru the sky is not flying... (That's called driving). Now don't get me wrong.... I've been driving airplanes thru the sky for about five thousand hours over the last dozen or so years and I do like it...Go with the skydiving... nothing will be more rewarding. I can tell you haven't set your priorities. You need to think of everything in terms of jump tickets or gear purchases... i.e. don't think of how many dollars you earn each working hour, translate that into how much altitude, (if you're a tipped or bonused employee, that money translates into beer at days end).If you're young and devoting your career to flying then you need to start considering new ways to fly for free... ferry airplanes, log as check pilot on instrument training flights, etc.But you'll never regret choosing flying your body over driving an airplane... I really like driving airplanes, But I really Love flying (me-skydiving)!Chris
Dutchboy 0 #6 March 16, 2002 Get the commercial rating. Then you could potentially get paid to fly and could use the money to support your skydiving habit.Skydiving is great, but flying skydivers can be fun too, and it helps pay for your own skydives. The DutchboyPhil's Flying Enterprises, Inc. SkydiveMonkey 0 #7 March 16, 2002 I agree with lazerq3. A rational person would say get the really good paying job first, but any "normal" skydiver would say get a rig !! One tequila, two tequila, three tequila floor
flyinaviatrix 0 #8 March 16, 2002 I say go with the gear...the rig is a great deal!!Yeah, yeah, yeah!! The gear will facilitate more F*RSTS and thus will supply our DZ with more beer!!Oh, and my advice has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with wanting to beat you to the commercial rating. *Nothing...*Blue skies and Big smiles!ValeriePP-ASEL, Instrument Student"Being a skydiver isn't just something you do...it's something you are."
