kevin922 0 #27 March 13, 2002 So I got a question --For you guys who have been to "Quincy" in the past - if i'm bringing my girlfriend, Jessie and she either A) isn't a jumper or B) is a new jumper and will not be jumping during the event, will she have to register to get in? I heard something about they weren't letting non jumper (locals) in last year.
skymedic 0 #28 March 13, 2002 Yes she will....at a cheaper non jumper rate....marcBSBD
SkymonkeyONE 4 #29 March 13, 2002 I have been told, actually, that the competition pond will probably be right in the middle of the main landing area so all the other jumpers can check the action out. Last year, it was right near the main entrance, behind the RV hookups. Not bad, as we were parked right at the end of the inactive runway, maybe 200 feet away.My webpage HERE

indyz 1 #33 March 13, 2002 From what I gathered at the meeting, the swoop pond isn't actually getting dug out, but they are building a series of berms in the outline of the pond, then pumping it full of water. Either way, I'll get to see some swooping up close. Too cool.--BrianHomepageAIM: suprmath
PhreeZone 20 #34 March 13, 2002 Great....That just what I want happening.... low time jumpers flying right over the middle of the pond or having to avoid even more radical traffic then normal to land in the middle of a landing zone. I'd love to try the pond out in a few years, but there is no way I want to do it in the middle of a pattern with tons of jumpers I've never jumped with....Cause I don't wanna come back down from this cloud... ~ Bush
jfields 0 #35 March 13, 2002 Quote Jessie and she either A) isn't a jumper or B) is a new jumper and will not be jumping during the event, will she have to register to get in? Kevin,I'd have to say that she could get in regardless. Us men are suckers. So, how is that digital camera thing going? JustinPS Nice pic!
skymedic 0 #36 March 13, 2002 Speaking of landings there....did you guy's see the overhead of the place....not too many outs if ya ask me.....a whole lotta town goin on there...not like the quincy bean field action or corn cob smashin....marcBSBD
SkymonkeyONE 4 #37 March 13, 2002 Actually, last year's pond was like that. It was built on a grade, so they dug down a bit and built berms with the spoil. If you hit the pond from high side to low side, you ended up having to fly down off the berm, which was like three feet high on that end. Add to that the un-even grass and it made for some interesting landings. If it's like that again, I will have to adjust my landing style. I broke two fingers last year sliding it out going down the grade. Very unfortunate, but it did not stop me from jumping. My webpage HERE
FallingILweenie 0 #38 March 13, 2002 From what i remember doing a jump at Rantoul last fall, there arent a whole lot of outs outside the DZ but the airport itself is big.I just hope the neighbors are informed of the event so that when people come landing on their street they dont think they are being invaded!blue skiesTomas

Snowwhite 0 #42 March 15, 2002 Yeh, your girlfriend can get in no sweat, we'll have her fill out registration papers (she'll need picture id), but 'friend of skydiver' is a definite category. 'Townie here to rip off stuff, cause problems and drink free beer' isn't. That's why we had a ban on some locals last year.
Snowwhite 0 #43 March 15, 2002 the location of the swoop pond is still in discussion, heck we didn't build last years pond til the Monday before the convention, so we still have plenty of variable left in it's location. Since we have so much room to work with, it's not a really big problem

I just got on there (first time ubid customer) and they had 10 of them going for as low as 29 bucks.. then all the sudden (1 hr before the thing ended) it shot up to one guy buying all 10 of them for 319.00 each (sounds fishy.. especially since uBid was the seller of the item, not a private individual) looks like a little insider markup to me.At any rate 330.00 is what I was gonna limit myself on them.Kevin
