Geeze! (the 'T' word)!

Recommended Posts

Just completed figurin' my taxes and added up all the milage my car ran last year. Drove to the dz 80 times in 2001 and racked up 5600 miles there and back! Geeze!
How many miles did you guys drive to skydive last year?
(counting the refund now! Get ready Skybytch for a new canopy order soon!) :P

Well, since you asked...
I have been out to the dz 16 times. At 168 miles round trip, that's a whopping 2688 miles I put on the old Jetta.....each one lost in thought, dreaming of the sky.....
And, as an independent contractor, I am 1099'd, so have to watch my taxes very carefully (I'm a realtor).
I have been trying to figure a way to write this off....can anyone come up with a good advertising campaign????????? LOL, but it's true, I could write it off as long as it is business related.....well, so says my CPA. (Can you imagine the audit that might bring on?????)

Have a sign shop make you some vinyl cut stick on letters to put on your rig advertising the company (so you can remove them post-audit) and say you land off so much that it enabled you to meet new clients?

Let's see.. it's almost 45 miles each way... let's say 80miles round trip. That would be 160 miles each weekend I drive back home Saturday night. Sooo... figuring I went 30 weekends last year... and I spent the night in my tent half of those times.... would be 15 x 160 and 15 x 80..... 2,400 plus 1,200 for about 3,600..... I gotta get a car with better milage... =-D

Well, now, that's an interesting idea....
My company's colors are colbalt blue and white - I have been thinking about appraoching the company for the $$ to custom purcahse a rig, and get the company name on it....seeing as I am a slowpoke in the air and am not flying anything near a pocket rocket, it might be good advertising because I am up there so long...and if I hire a photographer (hey, Viking?), and get some cool pix, then I could mount an advertising campaign that most people would not forget..........but I'll bet my company would say, well, "NOT A CHANCE" as they laugh hysterically....
But thanks for the idea!

So, how cool is that?

Very cool ! Like someone said a couple of years ago, "it's a long, lonely drive".
Paid my dues back in 1996, 97, 98,and 99 with long flights and drives alone :^) Better to share it with a friend now. :)ltdiver
btw, 'someone' wouldn't let me drive last year ;^) thanks!

funny you mentioned this. I just looked at my work records..
1,200 miles!! jeeze, we go over my house at 3grand when were climbing towards the south/east!!! i live that friggin close!
transportation to international airports last season broke all kinds of personal records (taking skydiving friends to airports): pre-second drives to 3 different interl. airports, pre-second drive to Long Island NY, logged over 800 miles just getting friends to said airports.. definitally drove over 3,500 miles for skydive related stuff. and 1,200 of them in 3 days

Kelly:
Isn't it nice to have your DZ in your back yard? My DZ is about 20 mins away (50 KM) 30 miles or so. It makes getting out there easy and watching others when you can't very painful.
Who ever said comming down from a high was bad obviously never tried this.
