billvon 2,991 #51 December 17, 2014 >The RSL cuts away the 3 rings there by pulling out your reserve by using your main. No, it doesn't do that. You may be confusing some stuff you heard about the Skyhook and the Stevens lanyard with the RSL. As someone else mentioned, PLEASE find a good instructor and ask them to go over your rig's functionality with you. Freefall is not a good place to learn that your gear doesn't work like you think it does. > Yes I know what an RSL does No, no, you don't.
gunsmokex 1 #52 December 17, 2014 Its alright I know my posts are screwed up and I screwed up the proper terminology to convey what I actually meant. Sorry for the misunderstanding. And yes I have been reviewing the RSL and how it functions. I know one doesn't simply 'activate' the RSL its activated by the means of cutting away and is an aid to help deploy the reserve usually quicker than someone can cut away and get their hand to pull on their own reserve handle (of course you'd still pull the reserve handle). Anyways I actually found a great video on it here that I had watched previously. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZbHg1QZZPs Yeah *facepalm* I was getting the RSL and the Skyhook mixed up. sammielu 3 #55 December 18, 2014 Prime example of the importance of learning from instructors in person where there is more flexibility in communication tools than the precise wording needed here. A quick "show me" discussion would clear up the RSL thing real quick.
skyjumpenfool 2 #56 December 21, 2014 What the hell is a rip cord? Don't most modern rigs just have a silver handle? Yes, terminology is important here because us newbs are reading this. We get confused easily and need good info. Or, maybe that's just me and the AOMED (age onset misunderstand everything disorder). Many of us learn from this site. We also talk to our instructors and mentors, but, we still like to come here and learn/keep our heads in the sport. When people respond to incorrect information, it sparks conversation/criticism. When I get confused from this information (again, probably the AOMED) I seek out experienced jumpers for correct info. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
