Do you think Americans are still pissed.......

Clay, thanks for the love. I wasn't talking about the military, I was talking about right now in my life. Yes the chances of being in a situation where I came upon someone trying to commit a terrorist act (hell, just someone trying to hold up the quicki-mart) is so small that I might as well take bets on if I'll get struck by lightening tomorrow instead, BUT I know that if I was put in that situation it would be fairly cut and dry: pull right side of shirt up, grasp handle, pull up, rotate, let go of shirt with left hand, ratchet slide, grasp with left hand, bring weapon up, lean forward, sqeeze, sight picture, break, break, break, break, etc. I know I can do that because that is the same drill I've used for over 4,000rds of training. Muscle memory. All of that can be accomplished in the time it takes a man to sprint from 15ft out, using computerised targets that randomaly turn and "run" at me (accomplished translates to firing a full magazine into the chest or head in that time also).
I'm not in the military yet, I don't claim to be. Who the hell knows what I'll do in the military, either way I'll have been trained for it by the military. I love you man, but Fuck off!

people here who are geeks about BLOWING SHIT UP!!!

Sorry....did it for a living for a while. When your life depends on what you know about your job it's pretty easy to get overboard with it...:)Dave.....wasn't dogging you man. I just hate it when people get all crazy about this stuff. A good friend of mine and former boss was "HOOAH" to the core. He did all the "cool" stuff in the military. He fought with the Special Forces in Desert Storm supporting the Kuwaitis. He has 66 confirmed kills and carries a lot of guilt because of it. He pictured things much differently than they turned out to be. People tend to get all wrapped up in how glorious war is and how they are going to be a hero. Then they get there and realize what killing people is really about. It's not like the movies and fucks with their head. That was my only point. I see younger people with the "HOOAH" attitude all the time and it kinda worries me. I don't want them to turn out like my boss carrying serious baggage. Thats all....Just seen too many cases of it.....

Clay, thank you for your response. I understand what you're saying. I understand the emotional consequences of what is involved. A year ago I had to come to terms with that when I got my CHL, since in this day and age, the chance of me having to use my weapon is higher then it should be. God help me if I ever have to be put in that situation, that is not something I look forward to happening. That is one of the reasons why I train so much, so if it does happen, I will be able to react properly with out endangering others or myself.
With that said, I would still get some personal satisfaction in seeing those terrorist mother****ers getting the crap kicked out of them. They killed civilians, ruthlessly. No regard to anything or anyone. They killed, harmed and scared my countrymen...I pray for our service men and women everyday that are fighting for us. We lost 8 soilders today...:( This is not anything pretty, war never has been, never once in history has war or fighting been anything but horrible; however, if our country doesn't stand against the powers that are set to harm us, then our country won't be one for much longer.

No doubt Dave!! Not being passive at all. With any hope I'll be back "In the Fray" any day now....Just waiting on that damn phone call!!! If I was still in the Air Force I might very well be in Afghanistan right now. Most days I'm glad I'm not.(Especially on weekends when I am jumping and drinking beer!!!) Other days....wish I was there....We'll see what the future holds for me. I would be glad to cap a couple of these idiots.

Historical comment.
A counter insurgency/guerilla type war has only been won by the defending side once in the 20th century.
Any takers as to who and which conflict?
Anyway my point is this, like it or not this war will not be won by kicking ass and taking names. The reasons behind it all have to be addressed while the kicking and name taking goes on.

Nope!!
By 'defending' I mean the forces fighting for the establishment.
In the Vietnam conflict that would have been South Vietnam and the USA. The aggressors would have been North Vietnam and the Viet Cong.
There have been about 50 such conflicts since WW2.
Score 49:1

Pay of pigs was a CIA sponsered reaction to an already lost counter insurgency war. It is viewed as part of the same conflict.

umm, I don't know. Obviously the Bay of Pigs invasion was designed (albeit poorly) to win...technically I still think I'm right....are you sure you're not just trying to get out of owing me a beer??;):D

Good one
but nope.
The Soviet invasion was exactly that, a conventional invasion of a fragmented kingdom. They installed a puppet government in Kabul. The Mujahidin then conducted a guerilla war against the Soviets and we know what happend there.
