Chin cup on a non-camera helmet

Recommended Posts

I have a Cookie Ozone open face helmet and saw that you can add a chin cup to it. As someone who won't be flying a camera for a long time, what are the advantages and disadvantages of using a chin cup (non-cutaway style, see attachment).

My guess is that it provide a small amount of impact protection to the jaw, but might also be less comfortable? It wouldn't be an expensive addition, so would it be worth considering if I'm not flying camera?

it's a reasonable amount of chin protection, and with or without camera, I like having one. It also helps keep the helmet chinstrap not chafe my lower neck on those days when I'm doing 7-8 jumps. And, you may eventually want a camera. A chincup makes a huge difference.

I have a chin cup on my open face non-camera helmet. I prefer the feel over a simple chin strap - felt like the helmet was being lifted off my head by the wind without the chin cup. With a chin cup it's snug and feels just like my camera helmet. That said, I wouldn't have bothered with the mod but for the fact I retro fitted my camera helmet with a cutaway chin cup and therefore had a standard chin cup going spare.
