Huevo 0 #1 February 18, 2002 So there I was,...planning a work trip out to Las Vegas and trying to figure out when I would have time to jump over the weekend. Having been out there a year and a half ago, I assumed I would hit Skydive Las Vegas again. So I talk two of my friends into making tandem jumps while we're there, and start making phone calls to help set it up for them. Now comes the fun part,...it seems the owner doesn't allow any fun jumpers anymore except those that graduate from "his" jump course. My friends are welcome, but I'm not!!?? If it weren't for me knowing who to call, they never would've even known the place existed. I'll keep it short, if you go to Las Vegas, jump at Las Vegas Gravity Zone in Jean, NV. It's the same distance from the city going south towards California. The atmosphere is great! I was welcomed with open arms, and look forward to jumping there again as well as taking any friends who want tandems. By the way, the "multi-million dollar" Skydive Las Vegas isn't the DZ its owner thinks it is anyway. When I did jump there, the reception was opposite of every drop zone I have ever tried, and it was obvious they cared about only one thing....$$$. What happened to perpetuation of the sport and helping out other jumpers? I look forward to the day I hear Skydive Las Vegas has gone out of business,...Long live Las Vegas Gravity Zone!!! Emmie 0 #2 February 18, 2002 What an asshole. I thought that skydiving changes people for the better, its all about being free. I know dzs don't make alot of money from funjumpers, but when all you think about is making money of of tandems, it kind of destroys the essence of skydiving. Zennie 0 #3 February 18, 2002 Mikey Hawkes is pretty notorious for unabashedly running a tandem factory and treating skydivers like crap. Just run a search on Skydive Las Vegas on rec.skydiving sometime and see what you get. "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense." PhreeZone 20 #4 February 18, 2002 Not just Rec. Here too....There was talk about the USPA not allowing him to renew his Group Membership. Fat lot of good that does, Group membership doe'snt mean anything now days.....Personally, I'd love to see him get ran out of business.Cause I don't wanna come back down from this cloud... ~ Bush
Huevo 0 #5 February 18, 2002 I plan on doing my part to run him out of the sport. Think I'll tell everyone I can of my experience, and make sure anybody going to Vegas hears about it! Never expected his type of attitude when I started skydiving, it simply doesn't belong!
skybytch 273 #6 February 18, 2002 Why yes he is a jerk... Not only can we not jump at his dz, he tried his damnedest to get restrictive LAWS passed regulating skydiving in the state of Nevada. Not to mention the stories I've heard of him bashing tandem students on the head.... pull and flare,lisa--What would Scooby Doo?
lazerq3 0 #7 February 18, 2002 Unfortuanatly the people that go there no nothing about the skydiving world and look at the place as just an amusement park with one ride so odds are it would be hard to put him out of business. But eventually things have a way of catching up with people like him and business that they run. I dont know the guy but from what I've heard I dont think I'd jump there if he opened it up to us fun jumpers!!jason
