chicagoskydiver 0 #1 February 12, 2002 Well, like the subject line says, I have good news and bad news. The good news is my wife and I are buying a house. The bad news....because of increased financial commitments that come with the purchase of this house, and the need to spend more time with my teenage daughter, I'm forced to announce my departure from the sport of skydiving. It really kills me to have to do it, but it is for the best. However,( a la Michael Jordan..LOL) I'm not slamming the door shut completely. Who knows, maybe some day I'll be able to return to the sport but for the forseeable future it's not in the cards. I'm going to truly miss the sport and all the great people that go with it. I know I'm going to be looking up at the sky on those warm summer days wishing I was up there. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do, and right now I need to refocus my priorities. I can't say thanks enough to all my skydiving friends for all the friendship that you've shown me. You will all be my friends always...I may have to give up the sport but I will not turn my back on my friends. In the future, the best way to reach me is at hackey47@hotmail.com. You always have a friend in the Chicago area. Blue skies!!Hackey

chicagoskydiver 0 #6 February 12, 2002 QuoteSorry to hear that. Can I borrow your gear?Actually, I've already had someone ask me if I'm selling my gear. Well, I haven't totally decided on that....I may just keep it in storage for now. If I do decide to sell it, I'll post it here in the classifieds.Hackey
Zennie 0 #7 February 12, 2002 Sorry to hear that dude, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.I'm glad we were able to jump together when you came down for the gathering. Family and Committment...yes, very very important. Lot's of people take time out from the sport. Hell, half the country takes the whole winter out.-- I got to jump with you though Fly Your Slot ! freeflir29 0 #9 February 12, 2002 Dude...you don't have to quit. Even just going out and doing a solo on rental gear now and again will keep you current enough. Just take it easy. Good on you for showing the commitment though.......Blue Skies......."I only have 131 jumps, so I don't know shit..right?"-Clay
chicagoskydiver 0 #10 February 12, 2002 QuoteHaven't decided to sell the gear, or drop the USPA membership? I plan to renew my uspa membership when it comes up for renewal in November so I can keep my options open. I don't know what the future holds but I do know there won't be any skydiving for at least the next year, beyond that it's hard to say, but I'm about 99.9% sure I'm done.Hackey
Keith 0 #11 February 12, 2002 A cold chill just ran up my spine. The thought of giving up skydiving would be like giving up my nuts. That being said, just remember that you'll always be a skydiver even if you have other priorities . . . and never say never. People have come back after long layoffs before. Good luck with whatever you do and don't stop posting just because you've grouded yourselfKeith
skydiver51 0 #12 February 12, 2002 Real sorry to hear any one has to stop jumping, I did for 23 years. Keep that thought of returning alive because I did. Wish you happiness in your new house and many happy days with your daughter. Idiocy = Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups. lazerq3 0 #13 February 12, 2002 Sorry to hear that but being a family man myslef I understand the diff commitments you have to take to be in this sport. ANd who knows,,,,someday that teenage girl of yours is going to be all grown up and moved out to school or married or something and then maybe you can get back into it. AggieDave 6 #14 February 12, 2002 Hackey, sorry to hear you're having to take time off from the sport. It was great getting to jump with you at Spaceland and hopefully we'll get some jumps together again sometime real soon.Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most. Sebazz1 2 #15 February 12, 2002 That is a very tough decision to make but it looks like you have your priorities straight. I'm too young to offer good advice but if I were you I would keep that rig and just go out once a month for one or two skydives. It ill eat you up inside if you don't go just once in a while. Although maybe it will eat you up inside if you do go once in a while? The seed has already been planted do you think you can really stay away?Very tough decision.............LOL...........Seb
