skybytch 273 #1 February 8, 2002 Hey all you code warriors!I need to find a free to very inexpensive, no frames, copy/paste, preferably non-java shopping cart system for a small website we're building to sell JFTC stuff. Can anyone point me in the right direction? MarkM 0 #2 February 8, 2002 Any info on the server you'll be hosting it on?NT/Unix IIS/Apache MSSQL/MySQL?Can it run perl, php, or asp?
nws01 0 #3 February 8, 2002 Go to the grocery store late at night. They usually leave the shopping carts out and you might be able to borrow one.Nathan
skybytch 273 #4 February 8, 2002 NT; can run perl, php and/or asp.Web virgins setting this up so copy/paste and easy are key.thanks!pull and flare,lisa--What would Scooby Doo?
lummy 4 #5 February 8, 2002 Lisa,I don't think the software will be the problem, I can look around for something BUT how you are you going to handle the transactions? Do you have a site to host this on? What Web server are you using?http://www.grafix-net.com/netcatalog/Still a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest.... indyz 1 #6 February 8, 2002 You're gonna need a secure server if you want to responsibly take credit card numbers over the Internet. I have been ready to place an order on a few websites until I noticed that they wanted me to either submit my credit card to them through an insecure page or email them my credit card number. In one of these cases, I ended up phoning in my order (*cough* Square 1 *cough*). I took my business elsewhere on the other sites.--BrianHomepage
MarkM 0 #7 February 8, 2002 Here's another quick one I found, 300 bucks but it had a 30 day demo so you can see how it sets up and runs.http://www.cartit.com/products/nt/I think your best bet will be one of these pre-packaged deals. There are free ones out there, but they'll take a bit to setup.
SBS 0 #8 February 8, 2002 Hey,We're not looking for something that will actually accept credit cards. What it will be is a single page with input fields for quantities, and an add/subtract button. Then, a button to proceed with order. The next page is a list of what was ordered, the option to add more, and a continue button. The continue sends 2 e-mails, one to us and one to them. They can then either send a paypal payment or a check, using a reference number assigned to the order by the computer. We think this will be the best way for us to do this, and should be pretty simple as far as the script.Any ideas?Steve
MarkM 0 #9 February 8, 2002 Yeah, if you have a little time get a book on asp and write it up yourself. You can probably find one that even has a chapter where you write something like what you want up.Sounds like you just need some pages with some basic forms and cookie use. That's pretty much a 101 web scripting type of thing, but finding a "ready made" free one on the net would probably be a be a pain in the ass.
indyz 1 #10 February 8, 2002 I'm with MarkM on this one, if you want the easy 1-2-3 setup, you will probably have to go with prepackaged software. However, somebody who has PHP experience should be able to churn out this simple of a system in a few days. How soon do you need this?--BrianHomepage
sangiro 26 #11 February 8, 2002 First off - consider PayPals own shopping options. You can sell anything from a single item to setting up a full shopping cart. Browse around in the PayPal resources (the "Sell" button) when logged in.Do not re-invent the wheel by having someone write this for you. Go to these two sites for scripts, free and commercial. Check out the Perl and PHP options:http://www.cgi-resources.com/http://www.hotscripts.com/Good luck!Safe swoopsSangiro
SBS 0 #12 February 8, 2002 we would like it soon, but don't need it immediately. I have no problem searching for something, but figured that with our limited knowledge, someone else could get the script done in 1/10th the time it would take us to find something. MarkM 0 #13 February 8, 2002 Quotesomeone else could get the script done in 1/10th the time it would take us to find something.Naw, shopping scripts aren't really the simplest things around. Will the product display a photo, just text, etc. How will you add/remove products(photos/text)? Just a single page of them, or multiple ones? Add a total cost page? Will that add tax if the shopper is in your home state? Will it send an email to confirm?Etc etc. Spend a little time browsing the scripts or even blow the 300 bucks for a decent system. One of those things will do all you need it to, be easy to setup(and you can call some helpdesk guy for help) and will probably have features that'll let you go beyond what you want now. freeflir29 0 #15 February 8, 2002 Does Paypal limit you to selling Belly Flying stuff though? "I only have 125 jumps, so I don't know shit..right?"-Clay
SBS 0 #16 February 8, 2002 good example, but what we really want to do is much simpler than that. We want people to be able to pay by check if they would like, or send more money than what they ordered, since it is a charity thing.A simple form would actually do fine, but still don't know how to set that up really.Steve

quade 4 #18 February 8, 2002 QuoteDoes Paypal limit you to selling Belly Flying stuff though?Nope. The limiting factor there ia my personal skill set. I basically just do one thing. I'm branching out though -- SBS says I don't suck as much as I used to, but I'm still a ---LONG--- way from being able to control myself well enough to charge $.01 for a sit fly shot.quadehttp://futurecam.com
