cloud9 0 #1 February 6, 2002 I can't verify the accuracy of this, I recieved it in the mail but thought it was interesting! What a difference 14 Years MakesAnyone remember this?? It was 1987!At a lecture the other day they played an oldnews video of Lt. Col. Oliver North testifying at theIran-Contra hearings during the Reagan Administration. There was Ollie in front of God and country gettingthe third degree, but what he said was stunning! He was being drilled by some senator; "Did you notrecently spend close to $60,000 for a home securitysystem?"Ollie replied, "Yes, I did, Sir."The senator continued, trying to get a laugh out ofthe audience," Isn't that just a little excessive?""No, sir," continued Ollie."No? And why not?" the senator asked."Because the lives of my family and I werethreatened, sir""Threatened? By whom?" the senator questioned."By a terrorist, sir" Ollie answered."Terrorist? What terrorist could possibly scare youthat much?""His name is Osama bin Laden, sir" Ollie replied. At this point the senator tried to repeat the name, but couldn't pronounce it, which most people back thenprobably couldn't. A couple of people laughed at theattempt. Then the senator continued. "Why are you soafraid of this man?" "Because, sir, he is the most evil person alive thatI know of," Ollie answered. "And what do you recommend we do about him?" asked thesenator."Well, sir, if it was up to me, I would recommendthat an assassin team be formed to eliminate him andhis men from the face of the earth."The senator disagreed with this approach, and thatwas all that was shown of the clip.(If anyone is interested, the senator was none otherthan Al Gore.) wildblue 7 #4 February 6, 2002 I love snopes.---------FROM THE DESK OF LTCOL OLIVER L. NORTH (USMC) RET. NOVEMBER 28, 2001 OVER THE COURSE OF THE LAST SEVERAL WEEKS, I HAVE RECEIVED SEVERAL THOUSAND E-MAILS FROM EVERY STATE IN THE U.S. AND 13 FOREIGN COUNTRIES IN WHICH THE ORIGINATOR PURPORTS TO HAVE RECENTLY VIEWED A VIDEOTAPE OF MY SWORN TESTIMONY BEFORE A CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEE IN 1987. A COPY OF ONE OF THOSE E-MAILS IS ATTACHED BELOW. AS YOU WILL NOTE, THE ORIGINATOR ATTRIBUTES TO ME CERTAIN STATEMENTS REGARDING USAMA BIN LADEN AND OTHER MATTERS THAT ARE SIMPLY INACCURATE. THOUGH I WOULD LIKE TO CLAIM THE GIFT OF PROPHESY, I DON'T HAVE IT. I DON'T KNOW WHO SAW WHAT VIDEO "AT UNC." (OR ANYWHERE ELSE) BUT, FOR THE RECORD, HERE'S WHAT I DO KNOW: 1. IT WAS THE COMMITTEE COUNSEL, JOHN NIELDS, NOT A SENATOR WHO WAS DOING THE QUESTIONING. 2. THE SECURITY SYSTEM, INSTALLED AT MY HOME, JUST BEFORE I MADE A VERY SECRET TRIP TO TEHRAN, COST, ACCORDING TO THE COMMITTEE, $16K, NOT $60K. 3. THE TERRORIST WHO THREATENED TO KILL ME IN 1986, JUST BEFORE THAT SECRET TRIP TO TEHRAN, WAS NOT USAMA BIN LADEN, IT WAS ABU NIDAL (WHO WORKS FOR THE LIBYANS -- NOT THE TALIBAN AND NOT IN AFGHANISTAN). 4. I NEVER SAID I WAS AFRAID OF ANYBODY. I DID SAY THAT I WOULD BE GLAD TO MEET ABU NIDAL ON EQUAL TERMS ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD BUT THAT I WAS UNWILLING TO HAVE HIM OR HIS OPERATIVES MEET MY WIFE AND CHILDREN ON HIS TERMS. 5. I DID SAY THAT THE TERRORISTS INTERCEPTED BY THE FBI ON THE WAY TO MY HOUSE IN FEB. 87 TO KILL MY WIFE, CHILDREN AND ME WERE LIBYANS, DISPATCHED FROM THE PEOPLE'S COMMITTEE FOR LIBYAN STUDENTS IN MCLEAN, VIRGINIA. 6. AND I DID SAY THAT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT HAD MOVED MY FAMILY OUT OF OUR HOME TO A MILITARY BASE (CAMP LEJEUNE, NC) UNTIL THEY COULD DISPATCH MORE THAN 30 AGENTS TO PROTECT MY FAMILY FROM THOSE TERRORISTS (BECAUSE A LIBERAL FEDERAL JUDGE HAD ALLOWED THE LYBIAN ASSASSINS TO POST BOND AND THEY FLED). 7. AND, FYI: THOSE FEDERAL AGENTS REMAINED AT OUR HOME UNTIL I RETIRED FROM THE MARINES AND WAS NO LONGER A "GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL." BY THEN, THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT HAD SPENT MORE THAN $2M PROTECTING THE NORTH FAMILY. THE TERRORISTS SENT TO KILL US WERE NEVER RE-APPREHENDED. SEMPER FIDELIS, OLIVER L. thrillseek 0 #11 February 7, 2002 Not to burst anyone's bubble or anything, but i happen to know quite a lot about this...As per longstanding US Policy, we paid for Osama Bin F**khead to train his people in order to help us defeat the "evil soviet empire" in Afghanistan. We trained, funded and equipped the same people that caused the tremendous losses of September 11. As I said, a longstanding policy of ours...we have consistently bet on the wrong guy and have ended up creating dictators and terrorists.Kind of like buying a pit bull....they are actually quite harmless, until you train them to fight...then they end up turning on their masters. Now, I'm all for a good war every now and then, but DAMN! Do we really need to create the scenarios ourselves?? well, that's my rant... or $ .02 if you will. freeflir29 0 #12 February 7, 2002 "Osama Bin F**khead to train his people in order to help us defeat the "evil soviet empire"Well...he's just the most recent. Let me see. Ho Chi Minh, Pol Pot, A host of folks in the middle east, A plethora of folks on the African continent. The list is long. Don't make it out that Osama had an original idea....Yes, we have had many groups turn on "Us" If you have a perfect solution I'm sure Dubbya would be all ears. Would you rather that we A) attacked the Soviets directly ala Kosovo, Bosnia, Etc. B) Just nuked em and destroyed the planet C) just let them expend the "Iron Curtain" one country at a time until they owned everything. AggieDave 6 #19 February 7, 2002 The catch is due to the basic Russian mentallity, proven through the ages (often called the Peasant Mentallity, relating to Peasant Justice, etc), the Communism that they implemented wasn't really communisim...it was a nice little messed up version that they called their own. Anyways, if it was done correctly according to theory, socialism would have evolved out of a capitalist state. They never had one. No, don't try to argue that the 6 months between revolutions was capitalism and it evolved from that, that's the biggest load of bullshit made up by the SRs to help them justify themselves...SO, the point is that the Cold War wasn't necissarily "silly" since Russia was bent on what was basically world domination, trying to expand outward and we (the US) was the other biggest kid on the block, just about the only ones that *could* keep them at bay. skyhawk 2 #21 February 7, 2002 AggieDave thats greed lol my point was more alone the point that ppl hated eachother so much wheres they where both after the same thing but using a different system a true democracy wouldnt care that much about paying for the poor if it means they cant afford to do something for the majority instead we are stuck with idea that we deserve everthing others have. all the time i here ppl here complaining about the rich asians that come here and take our jobs, the asians in questions are two income familys with both working 70-80 hours a week yet someone not prepard to do that complains and expect the same. ill have a look later but i think its over half of australias budget is welfare, which is bullshit if i played my cards right i could be on about $300 or more a week for sitting on my arse instead im making $40 a fornight from a shitty boss. im not rich i wish someone would give me money but i dont see why the government should be responsible for me living the high life im young and healthy the money coud be spent on alot better things. i dont think we should go to the cave man days where it is strongest survise but they gov should only give ppl enough to live if ppl can drive nice cars go surfing and get pissed every night they are getting to much(o)(o)

flyingferret 0 #24 February 7, 2002 Age old dillema guys. And their is not real way to solve it. Open-minded is fine. But if you want to have a group, you have to have rules at one level or another. Believing everyone can just leave each other alone is more idealistic that communism working. The best way I have heard it put comes from my Dad, and from someone older that told him when he was my age. "The more people there are, the more regulated things will become." That simple, you can explain it if you want, but it is true either way. The more the population of a particular set of people grows, rules increase or anarchy increases, one or the other.Malachi
