Ok whats a good part time Job??

Recommended Posts

Ok guys up until now i had been funding my jumping with $$ that my granparents on my dads side had left me when they passed in 96. That $$ is almost gone. Now i am 100% serious about this so don't be a smart ass please. So far i have come up with the various electronic stores (Best Buy, Good Guys, Curcuit City, and the like) Consider ALL fast food joint out. Also the hours must be flexible b/c i am also going to school.
Thanx guys. :)I swear you must have footprints on the back of your helmet - chicagoskydiver

I'm a full time student and work almost full time too. Find a small company (stay away from big companies they don't care about you) and get a job doing retail, receiving (thats what I do), or whatever. You have a better chance at finding a job that will deal with you going to school and wanting to have weekends off for skydiving if you find a small company. Just my personal opinion/expirence.

Well, I worked at a Best Buy. If you were hoping to make commission, Best Buy isn't for you. None of the employees are on commission. It was supposed to keep us honest ;). If you are in sales, chicks will hit on you because they think that you can get them a discount. You get a (substantial) personal discount after 30 days. That's about all of the pluses that I can think of. The part I liked the least was the evaluations. Your sales technique is evaluated constantly, at least in the beginning. In one 20 hour work week (4 shifts), I was given 7 sales evaluations. The other sales people were serious dicks sometimes. Mostly, it was because I was new so I didn't make as many sales, which brought our Product Service Plan ratios down (PSP ratios are a serious matter of pride among BB employees).
Definitely not the worst job ever, I probably would have lasted a lot longer than I did at BB, but a former employeer made me an offer I couldn't refuse.
I've also had a bunch of other jobs:
-Arby's - I made $6.50 and was the highest paid non-management employee in the store. Watched a guy cut part of his finger off in a meat slicer. Still have scars from burning myself on all sorts of stuff (fryers, heat lamps, etc.). Called the fire department because one of our employees was trapped in the john.
-Grocery store (bagging and carts) - Easy but mindnumbing. Ever push carts in snow so deep you could only move two at a time?
-Doctors office - Fun. Easy. Shitty pay. "I gave myself an enema with a garden hose and it doesn't feel right. What should I do?"
-Virtual reality company - Finally, management. Good pay, easy work.

Viking.
Try waiting tables try working at a restaraunt, Not Mcdonalds, but somewhat of a nicer place, Buss tables, Bar back, or wait tables. The money is great and usual flexible hours. I work 5 nights a week as a server. and the money is unbelievable Average over $20 an hour cash.
Just a thought.

When I was in college I was a telemarketer... I know - everyone hates telemarketers. But it was an awesome job because you get to set your own hours (read - after sunset!) and you can make a killing! Lots of bonuses available if you are good at it. You can do all your weekly hours in 1 day or spread em out over 5. I know you think it sounds awful but someone's gotta do it!

Dude,
We've all seen your pictures. You obviously have talent for that. What about starting a weekend-type photo business. Maybe not the wedding/bar mitzpha (sp?) stuff, but more informal. Portraits, family parties, kid's birthdays... It would seem you have the equipment, low overhead if you are living at home, and you pick the hours.
Insist on cash and only take the jobs you want. Anniversary party in the local area? Take it. Group orgy with naked chicks? I think you know some people you can recommend.

Yeah, I agree with Joe. I'm a waiter/host at a decent restaurant, and on a super busy night I'm making $20/hr easily. I sometimes get as much as $65 in tips a night, average is usually about $40-$45. Slow nights usually pull in about $20-$35. And thats all just tips. Something to consider....good luck...

Through all the various jobs that my roomie and I have had (cashiering, bussing tables and hostessing, secretary stuff) we've both had the best luck using a temp agency like Manpower. My roomie got a job paying her $14 an hour (I only got $10 an hour.) Right now, we're both going to try substitute teaching ( we have Mon Wed and Fri off of school, so our availabilities are great for it.) Also, some of my friends work at factories and love it (since the pay is great and hours are flexible.) Hope I could help!

If your handy with a video-camera and editing equiptment, I suggest you post some adds in a local paper offering your services.
People are willing to pay big bucks for something as silly as a video of someones life (just editing old stuff they give you) for people's 10th/50th/75th birtday/wedding aniverseries (sorry about incorrect spelling:) and you can ask even more for shooting a wedding-video, which is great.
It only involves 1 day of filming, and maybe one or two days of editing, and people easely pay $500 for a simple video.
If your good at your stuff you can also try company promotion video's (and offer to shoot company outings/parties) and they will also pay good cash (because 'professional' companies and people ask about three times what you would dare to ask, while it is not always better qualitywise:)
So...if your 'into' video...you found your part-time cash-cow..
Succes..

Dude, if you're in a college town, go work at a frigg'n bar. You can bounce, or if you can pour beer/mix drinks then be a bar tend. They make serious money from tips. Also, tell your manager that you have a "job" on the weekends and you can't work, since you "have" to be at the DZ. Pack everyonce in a while to make that legitimate.
Also, I worked at Office Depot last summer, pay wasn't too bad, but the management was real flexible and the people I worked with were awsome. Still friends with a few of them. They don't work on commision, but that keeps the work environment pleasant.

Driving a school bus pays at least twice as much as flipping burgers. It paid $13 an hour a decade ago. The worst part was getting up at 05:00, but weekends were free.
Still the best paying part-time job is packing parachutes. Can you believe that the best packers at Perris or Eloy make $500 on the best days, cash?

I've waited tables, done clerical bookkeeping for compaies after hours (check otu local trucking companies- they look for people to staff the office at night when people are still in and out of there, it's easy). most recent venture is cooking for a family at night, i work from say 5-8 PM and make them dinner, clean up dinner and go home. they think it's cool that i skydive, give me off any night I want to take trips, etc. the husband and oldest son are going to do tandems when it warms up bit.

how about process serving? you could make a lot of money doing that. especially if you're registered. check your county on how to get registered, then advertise with local attorneys. You'll be amazed at the responses!! you can charge anywhere from 25-55 for a serve. check it out
What you "think" you cannot do ...you CAN if you "think" about it ;)

"process serving"
It's when someone has to be served with legal papers. The law requires that an uninterested 3 rd party "serve" them the papers. You just show up...ID the person...and tell them they should consider themselves served. Most of the time it's pretty easy.....sometimes not.....:)"I got some beers....Let's Drink em!!!"
