PeterXC 0 #1 May 29, 2014 Looking to buy a used AAD with some life left in them. The Cypres need maintenance after a while. The Vigil IIs as well I understand. I've heard that a good Aviacom Argus (with cutter replaced on or after 2011), or an FXC ASTRA will last forever if maintained. Is there any truth to the rumours that an expired Cypres, or a Vigil I can be traded in for a new model? Should I be looking for one of these? Can't jump without one but if I buy new, there'll be no budget left for jumping :(

Can't jump without one but if I buy new, there'll be no budget left for jumping :( Be aware that some DZs will not allow the Argus to be jumped there. Be certain your home DZ will allow. If you buy used, you can find the exact value for a CYPRES here: http://www.cypres-usa.com/usedcypres.asp Vigils are close to the same value. There is nothing wrong with a used/pre-owned AAD. A couple of mine were purchased used from DZ.com ads. Be sure you know who you're purchasing from either by name or validated reputation. A couple of years ago a number of hot (and modified) AADs were out there for sale; one person was injured. Caveat Emptor. You might also verify that your rig manufacturer supports X vs Y brand. There is also the Mars M2 available, but not all rig manufacturers support them.

It does need batteries when they start running low or at 10 years but on the II that can be done by your rigger (but not on the Vigil 2+ when that is introduced). The argus requires a check every 4 years. Currently Chuting Star is doing those (and others may be as well) but one risk you take with an Argus is that support from vendors (and also replacement parts) will no longer be available. You may also find some riggers are reluctant to pack the Argus (and it is not approved for all rigs). Service for the Argus is $200."What if there were no hypothetical questions?" sundevil777 102 #4 May 29, 2014 The Astra can seem to be an attractive option, but it is not. Don't bother going there, you'll regret it.People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
