Mardi Gras Boogie

Recommended Posts

I’m thinking about heading over to Louisiana next month to jump at the Mardi Gras boogie. Anyone else planning on being there?
---------------------------------
From their web site www.goldcoastskydivers.com
Mardi Gras Boogie: February 7-12. The biggest and best boogie on the gulf coast. Two CASA's, Super Otter and Grand Caravan. Prize drawing to be held Saturday night for all registered jumpers. Lots of demo canopies on hand. Beach jumps (must have water gear and C license), bonfire, disc jockey, Free beer and cajun food Saturday night. Free load organizing for RW, CRW and Freeflyers, all experience levels. Rental gear available in all sizes. 7 major hotels within 5 minutes of the DZ and all offer a skydiver discount. Free RV hookups on a first-come basis. Hot Showers and clean restrooms. 90 minutes from downtown New Orleans and 30 minutes from Mobile. Best airports to fly in to: Gulfport, MS (40 miles to our west) or Mobile, AL (40 miles to our east). For those flying in with private aircraft, our airport identifier is PQL. $10 Registration and $18 jumps to 14,000 feet Last year's boogie featured registered jumpers from 38 different states and 4 foreign countries! This boogie is a "can't miss" for all skydivers. Loads of fun and southern hospitality.

You mean there is a difference.

Yeah, the difference is like night and a different part of the night.
Actually jumped Moss Point once and I had a great time. Very friendly people and very convenient. Hard not to have a good time anywhere on the Gulf Coast during Mardi Gras. Most places you will feel under-dressed if you leave the house with less than a six-pack.
Enjoy!

warning; don't drive a car w/ an out of state license in Louisiana.
Louisiana cops get a cut of whatever they can confiscate. So if you're driving an out of state car, you're a much more likely target (harder for you to get back there & contest it in court). So people from out of state are getting pulled over for some bullshit like "Improper lane change" or something, and then it's: Oh look at this bag of drugs that we "found" in your car! Guess we have to confiscate your car now!
Hasn't happened to me, but there was a documentary about it on TV. When confronted the cops basically said, "OH well these are very serious accusations, and we'll, uh, look into it!"

OK maybe things have changed. I admit I saw this Dateline documentary in 1997 or 1998. Maybe there was enough of a public outcry that they've cleaned up their act.

Yeah...I know what your talkin about. The FBI went in and prosecuted and gutted the NOPD almost out of existance. I'm sure it's a much more corruption free place now. By Louisianna standards corruption is normal. Let's look at the history of the state.......:)"I got some beers....Let's Drink em!!!"
