Jesse 0 #1 January 14, 2002 I recently heard that the FAA has declined to address the issue of extending the reserve repack cycle from 120 to 180 days. What are thoughts on this?
martz 0 #2 January 14, 2002 In Canada, the CSPA has extended the 120 to 180 days last year !!MartZ
Albatross 0 #3 January 15, 2002 My non-rigger opinion is that this is an antiquated idea left from the days or perishable materials and round reserves. I have heard that the reserve doesn't change shape, volume or deployment speed after the first 30 days so if there were a day with any significance it would be 1 month not 120 days.God bless us and God Bless AmericaAlbatross

PalmettoTiger 1 #5 January 15, 2002 In the "protecting skydivers from themselves" vein, 120 days makes more sense than 180, since it makes a person more likely to get a reserve repack and (more importantly, IMO) full inspection of their gear at least once during the season, rather than just at the beginning of the season. Excessive wear or other dangerous conditions which develop over the summer jumping season may go unnoticed by the average skydiver giving his/her gear a once-over before each weekend, but a rigger doing an inspection and repack is much more likely to spot it.PTigerEDIT: sorry about the 'whereas' and 'in this context' crap, I just finished off my political theory final and I'm set on the "bullshitting eloquently" mode.
