lazerq3 0 #26 January 9, 2002 I stopped renting from them a year ago when I found out that they make over 2.4billion dollars /yr in late fee charges. Come to find out you have a 12 hr grace period, but when they tell you when the movie has to be returned they dont mention that the grace time is included in that. FUCK THEM RIGHT IN THE EAR!!!!!!!jason
TheMarshMan1 0 #27 January 9, 2002 oh man, what the hell. If I'd have known that, I would have been able to jump about 6 extra times in the past few months. Seems like every time I take a late one back, its the same damn day, just after the time on the reciept. Shit.
FallingILweenie 0 #28 January 9, 2002 i dont like blockbuster cuz they dont support indy film, but instead stock 5 billion copies of star wars episode one, possibly the worst film ever made (with the exception of iron eagle 2)
pearsjes 0 #29 January 9, 2002 what a terrible situation - there must be a legal recourse, although Blockbuster probably has a whole pack of lawyers that would make fighting more expensive than just settling
Viking 0 #30 January 9, 2002 i don't rent movies anymore havn't in almost three years. I buy them now. I have 190 movies in my room I swear you must have footprints on the back of your helmet - chicagoskydiver

MiataDRM 0 #32 January 9, 2002 I stopped renting from them a while ago! I was filling out a membership application...they were happy w/ just my license & a credit card...w/ home info & phone number; the usual. The manager caught a glimpse of my MILITARY ID & all the sudden demanded an address & phone number to my Commanding Officer to keep on file!!!!!!!!!! I was SSSSSOOOOOOoooooo pissed! I walked out & went across the street to Holywood Video & have been treated great...& they have reasonable prices.**I'm a Pschydiver!Majdi
ADRNALN 0 #33 January 9, 2002 I got burned the same way but for late charges. I got a notice from BB showing the $3 charge and I was pissed-off that they could just do that without contacting me. I was mainly pissed off about the principal of the thing. BB told me that after 30 days they have the right, as per the membership agreement, to charge overdue fees. They hit the account on the 25th day which made me even more pissed-off. Well, they got theirs because after I got off the phone I check the notice again and noticed that the account number didn't match any of my current account numbers. It was from an account that was closed out years ago, so screw them. There is a class action suit against relating to the way BB charges late fees. Screw them! scottbre 0 #34 January 9, 2002 Yep, I got a receipt from them, one time, that was literally 5 feet long because it had a notification about my rights in regards to that class action suit. It was really funny, because it took forever to print out. "Can't keep my mind from the circling sky. Tongue-tied & twisted just an earth-bound misfit, I." JumpingKayAus 0 #35 January 9, 2002 I have a friend who had a similar problem. He rented 2 videos from a location by my house. Took the videos home with him by mistake. So...he called the office located closest to HIS house and asked them what the policy was on returning rentals to different locations. (MISTAKE!!!) The clerk said, "Sure! Bring it on in! We send out Fed Ex shipments everyday to return rentals to other locations!". My friend was thinking "very cool", and so he dropped them into the other location's jacked up little paws. Needless to say....he was charged with approximately $400.00...they made him pay the complete cost of the videos and the late fees. He wrote a letter to both locations, corporate office, and his bank. So far he's heard nothing.I hate that place.Standing behind him even when he's wrong~JumpingKayAus
Tee 0 #36 January 9, 2002 I had the EXACT same problem with Blockbuster!!!!!! I rented to videos and returned them both at the same time. A couple of days later I received a call from Blockbuster saying that one of them was not returned. I explained to them that I dropped them off together in the night drop-off box...and the preceded to assure me that I didn't! So they did a search, said they found nothing and eventually charged my card. I didn't let it rest so finally one of the managers said that they would watch for it on their monthly inventory. Sure enough...what did they find....my movie!!! They appologized profusely and gave me 1 month to rent all the movies I wanted for free...whoop-dee-doo. Needless to say, I have never gone back either.Keep fighting them...don't give up! Tee
AggieDave 6 #37 January 9, 2002 Well, you could always setup a new account using a SSN that has one number off, don't let them take down your D/L number and give them a non-working CC#, like from one of your old/expired cards (if the numbers change). That's all legal (except for the CC#, I'm not sure on that one), since the supreme court ruled that your SSN can not be used for identification purposes, etc.Success is how high you bounce when you hit bottom.-General George Patton-
jfields 0 #38 January 9, 2002 QuoteSSN that has one number offBad idea, because then you could end up screwing somebody else. Despite the fact that SSNs shouldn't be used as ID numbers, they so are, so don't do some stranger (or a buddy) like that. Yeah, they could show it wasn't them if you messed up, but it would be a total hassle.Justin
AggieDave 6 #39 January 9, 2002 The stuff I posted was an adaptation of some stuff a privacy group recommended. Then again, those guys are waaaay into the privacy thing, like they don't want anyone to know anything about them. Especially businesses, the government, etc. I understand where they're coming from, but damn those guys take it to an extreme that's almost comical.Success is how high you bounce when you hit bottom.-General George Patton-
SpeedRacer 1 #40 January 9, 2002 Problem with Blockbuster is: The store is run by sixteen year olds with no adult supervision. When they screw something up, there is no one there to take responsibility. Also, the videos at Blockbuster are gradually being replaced by kiddie video game cartridges. My advice, go to a real video store that still rents videos. And has at least one adult working there.I wont even go into the fact that Blockbusters doesn't even have a porn section!!Speed Racer"My God! It's full of stars!" freeflir29 0 #41 January 9, 2002 "those guys take it to an extreme that's almost comical"Not really in the age of identity theft. AggieDave 6 #42 January 9, 2002 That's a good point. And to think that people worry about ordering stuff over then internet when the stores they shop at merely throw the reciepts away in the dumpster for someone to walk up to and walk away with...Success is how high you bounce when you hit bottom.-General George Patton-
scottbre 0 #43 January 9, 2002 You should always have a second identity, complete with birth certificate, drivers license, and SSN card, set up. Just in case.... jfields 0 #44 January 9, 2002 People that are that paranoid are idiots if they even use credit cards. There are no SSNs if you pay with cash. Of course, you can't open an account anywhere without a credit card. But I suppose accounts of any kind are to be avoided if you want your complete privacy.[sarcasm]Yeah, I should disconnect my Internet service because they have my personal info. And my phone, because they do to. And the power company, and the water company, and hell, my job knows who I am so I should leave that. And the DZ has a waiver on file, so I should stop jumping. freeflir29 0 #46 January 9, 2002 "Unless you do live in a little shack in BFE Montana..."I have one of those but I'm still trying to figure out how to live there and have money to eat and skydive. I take a differen't approach. I don't kid myself into thinking I can keep my info private. So, I take the other approach. I make sure I put out as much false info as I can. It's probably a more effective approach in todays world of mailing lists and such. Sure you'll get some annoying telemarketing now and again but the people trying to do real harm will have trouble figuring out what info to use. Hopefully they will get frustrated and look for an easier target....."I got some beers....Let's Drink em!!!"Clay
