Anyone else?

Need a freakin job? I do! You wouldnt believe how hard it is to freakin get work in ANY of the fields i have experience in.
First off there are alot of if's, which suck, bad, because "if" I could do this or "if" I had that I would have no problem getting a job at all! So in the spirit of Anns Skydiver network, I'm gonna post 3 career fields I have experience in. I'm looking to work in the Houston Area. Help a brother out!
K, one of my first jobs in life was as a butcher, cutting up dead animals (for pykes vegetarian family)-lol
Not my first choice but I knew this would always be a viable fallback (or so I thought). I've extensive experience in the grocery store business including management and loss prevention etc. I can hack up cows, pigs, sheep, chicken whatever, into pieces so people will think they are pretty and want to buy them-lol. Anyone need deer processing?
k I got tired of the cold bloody hell of a meat market and went to go get greasy learning how to work on cars. Mainly because my first car was a 69 VW bug and I pretty much had to learn how to work on it.
I went to Athens Area Tech (in georgia) for the Automotive Technology program. I spent about a year there before they ended the program, so no degree.
I got a job at a respected cheverolet dealership who specialized in Corvettes. There I went thru tons of factory GM training better than anything I could have ever got at a technical school. Went on to work for other dealerships including VW and Izuzu.
All that is great right? I would have a job tommorow if I had about 4 grand worth of tools! I sold all my tools back to the tool devils when I quit working on cars. So if anyone needs work done on thier car, bring it over here. I'll get it done one way or the other. I'd be willing to change oil if someone would let me borrow thier wrench -lol
Last off I can design websites - cheap. I'm in the process of rebuilding my portfolio in hopes of snagging a job here locally. If you need someone who can use Adobe products, macromedia products, quark, etc drop me a line. I also attended Dekalb Tech in Ga in thier computer programming course, but didnt finish, because I was paying for it myself and got broke. I'm fluent in HTML (hard coding and WYSIWYG) and CSS. I consider myself to be intermediate in PHP, javascript, and perl. Getting better every day. In the future I look to be completely fluent in an array of the more popular programming languages. Just becasue I actually like it-lol.
So there ya go, wtf cant I find a job?

May I suggest parts counter at a GM dealer? Since you have the right personal equipment (i.e. a penis) you should have no problem making a livable wage, even working for the asshole who wouldn't pay me more than $7/hour and then fired me cuz I don't have the correct personal equipment.....
Bitter? Me?? Nah. ;) After all, I'm a woman, how could I possibly know anything about cars....

HEY! I worked parts too- and beleive me I've tried to squirm ontop any position at a dealership I could squirm into-lol
The part about girls not knowing about cars is bogus. My automatic transmission instructor at the gm center in Atlanta is a female. And SHE is one of the most kick ass mechanics I have ever seen, guess thats why shes an instructor.

Hmmm... five outta six ain't bad.... can't stand football though. ;)
I started working at my dad's gas station at 14, finally quit when I was 25 and went to work in the parts dept. of an assholes GM dealership. I can change tires, filters, belts, hoses and all fluids, r&r a radiator, fuel pump, battery, alternator... I even (with some help) rebuilt the Powerglide tranny in my '68 Camaro. But I don't know enough about cars to work parts counter....

LOL!!!! Actually, it might be possible that you cut up meat for his NON-Vegetarian family (! hehe !), considering that he is (as far as I know) the only vegetarian member of his family! His dad is a "diehard Texan" from Austin and made the kids (he and his bros and sis) eat rare meat...and then...well, let's just say it involved dental floss and the old parental excuse of "Because I said so." (This is only my interpretation of the situation - you know I gotta throw in a fuckin' disclaimer.) You have no idea the horrors he can share regarding these experiences!! YIKES!! I would be a vegetarian too, probably. He isn't vegan, so I guess his parents didn't make him eat raw eggs or curdled milk! LOL
(All in good fun, B!)
Cheers,
Sis

I think his sister is a veg, and a lesbian, so they are more alike than they'll ever wanna admit-lol
I was surprised that moving to Texas and all, the beef people-lol, that there aren't more jobs here in that field. But I have to say, I'm prolly still better off jobwise than Atlanta.

Word. This job market sucks for computer people. I'm still unemployed, and I have skills similar to yours. I have degree in computer science, and my work experience has been: "do everything". I was system administrator, web developer, database developer, firewall/security administrator, and blah blah blah for about 3 years, but it's not enough of any *one* thing for anybody to take an interest. I'm fluent in over 12 programming languages, but ...
Ah... now I'm getting depressed. I can't offer you a job, but I can offer sympathy.

I was out for 4 months over the summer here in No Cal which was f'in scary. I think I had 2 interviews not including the 5 I had to do for this job. I have NEVER been out of work for more than 3 weeks at any one time.
Also, I just hired an entry level tech and posted on www.dice.com. I got over 400 resumes and ended up interviewing 15 people. some people had 10-12 years experience and were applying for ENTRY LEVEL grunt work

Yes Pyke is another sel proclaimed "lesbian trapped in a mans body"-lol thats why i said that;
I did some interviewing today, what a load of crap. Walked into a few small auto shops. The way it looks, the 4 years I spent learning how to work on cars is going to get me a job in the automotive department at Wal-Mart. Great, I can explain to all the customers how a powertrain control module simply uses transistors to grounds to vary the voltage output to various sensors. And that data between Modules is sent through class 2 serial cables, and that the cool stereo they just bought and hooked up to one of those cables just frien thier computers. How zener diodes only allow electrical current to pass in one direction, how the rectifier bridge helps to convert dc current to Ac current, and how pulse width modulation works with your Electronic Braking Traction Control Module. I can tell them why they shouldnt buy that cheap antifreeze for their new Impala because ir runs to hot and will corrode thier cooling system faster than the factory antifreeze, and that thier new corvette is made for Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil, and that the cheap oil they are buying will ruin thier 60k car. Oh, and yeah, all the oil changers here just got trained by the penzoil guy today, so check your oil before you leave to make sure they remembered to fill it up. Fuck me

I know how you feel man. I just dropped outta one of the best (although I dont quite agree) colleges in the country for my degree (Aeronautical Science)....cause I couldnt afford to keep going there. Now here I am, back in the absolute shithole freaking town I grew up in which i ABSOLUTELY HATE and I have no good job (I'm a ski instructor=shitty pay), no money, and no decent dropzone within a 4 hour drive. Oh yeah...and for the two semesters I was at that school, the bill is over $30K. Because of that, I probably wont be transferring anywhere anytime soon, and besides, I've lost all motivation to go to college anywhere after that place. Yeah, I'm f$#@ed. On the flip side, I should have all the rest of my FAA ratings (Commercial, multi, CFII/MEI) within the next 4 to 6 months. Hopefully I can get a decent flying job (as decent as possible with no degree) someplace near a nice DZ and far far far away from here so I can make enough to live a little and jump a lot (yeah, I know, I'm dreamin- but hey...it'll happen someday, so what if its in the afterlife? ;)). Anyways, think happy thoughts (jump run, freefall, blue skies, beer, boobies, etc. etc.) and hang in there man, things will get better.
Peace,
Marshall

Hell... if you get all those rating and give the operator of a mult jumpplane leasing copmany a call, you might be able to get typed in a big bird for free. Plus you might be able to get some cheap if not free jumps in the process. PM me if you want a name to write to for more info....
