Pammi 0 #1 January 7, 2002 I am having some problems making a CD that my CD player in my car will recognize. It's just the one that comes with the car, a Mazda, so I know that's part of the problem. However, Kris made a CD for me previously that worked fine in it using the same program that I'm using that he recommended to me. The CD's that I have made work just fine everywhere else, but in my car. I've done everything I can think of, including slowing down the burn to 1x, which helped a little bit, but not much. What happens is the car will squeal and make noises trying to find the songs for a very long time. When/if it finally does, if you try to go to the next track, it will never find it.It's gotten really frustrating. The CD writer is an HP cd-writer 9500 series, CD-RW, and I've used Maxell CD-R's specifically for music. Any recommendations???Closing pin jewelry
Milo 0 #2 January 7, 2002 You might try different colored CDs. Some are blue, some are silver, gold, or black. Seriously, it can make a difference, especially in non-computer cd readers that may use a narrow spectrum laser. On the flip side, your CD burner may not be able to burn to the different colored CDs.Good Luck!Milo
scotts 0 #3 January 7, 2002 i've got an HP cdw 8000 and i haven't had any problems with using them in my truck. i've used sony cd-r and memorex music cd-r. make sure that you choose audio cd's in your cd creator. hope this helps. if they play in your home cd player they should work in your car. my belief only.Damn Power Lines !!! AggieDave 6 #4 January 7, 2002 Well, the *should* work, but sometimes they don't. It has to do with how non-computer CD drives read the disks. This used to be a really big problem when burners first came out to the general public since most of them didn't conform to the ISO. Question, how old is the CD player in the car? Someone suggested using a CD with a blue as opposed to a green write side. Yes, sometimes that will work, more often then not, though, it has to do with how the burner writes to the disk and less with the actual software and type of disk. Try hitting HP's website and see if there have been other reports of this problem with that burner, they may have a flash upgrade for the burner to fix it if there is an actual problem. I had to do that to an old HP burner that I had a while back.I went to a Grateful Dead Concert and they played for SEVEN hours. Great song. -- Fred Reuss
Ducky 0 #5 January 7, 2002 This may seem elementary, but is this your first attempt at burning a CD? If you do not close or end the cd properly it will only be recognized by certain types of players. There should be an option to "Finalize" the CD. Try that.Kwak
QuickDraw 0 #6 January 7, 2002 Have you tried changing the car ?:)
wceviper 0 #7 January 7, 2002 What type of car stereo is it, how old, model number, etc. If its an older stereo, it may not read CDR's very well. Have you tried cleaning the Laser head on your Car stereo yet?-Jason
cyberskydive 0 #8 January 7, 2002 Make sure your not trying to use a CDRW as well, CDRW's can only be read by computer type cd players, which have stronger lasers. Use CDR's for music. CDRW's for data, but you can use cdr's for data too.If you think the cd player in your car is he problem, put the cd in a few other cd players, preferrably newer ones, and see if it works there. I've never seen a cd player capable of playing music from CDRW's tho. Chances are, if the CD wont play in any cd player, the cd is the problem and not the cd player obviously. http://www.cyberskydive.com/
jtval 0 #9 January 7, 2002 i couldnt wait to finish reading this thread so i could saythat you might wanna sell the car. but alas, quickdraw didnt get the name for nothin i guess!does your carradio play other cd's? if you hadnt checked lately i may be a problem with the player(r u putting the darn thing in with the correct side facing down?sometime's if you try driving 15 over the limit you get better quality...seems that at 90 mph, the cd sounds bestHave fun, LIVE FREE, SkydiveJT
Pammi 0 #10 January 7, 2002 LOL! Yeah, I actually like my little Mazda...EXCEPT for the stereo now :) That poor car has taken a beating since I got it...40,000 miles in a year and a half! Yeah, the CD's work fine everywhere BUT my car. Even in an old CD player/Radio I have at work. No problems at all! I did use CD-R's too, and finalized the CD. *sigh* I guess I'll have to accept the car has a piece of **** player :/Closing pin jewelry
freaksister 0 #11 January 7, 2002 AggieDave is most likely has the answer to your situation. The CD player is probably the issue. My home stereo CD player (a very expensive Sony) will sometimes play burned cds and sometimes won't. Usually it won't, and its only 3 years old. You may just be SOL hon. :(SisFear not your death - fear having not really lived. Willie Sinsel, KS.
QuickDraw 0 #12 January 7, 2002 have you checked the thickness of the CD,s ?i have some *cough* copies of stuff at home, some will play some won't (cd rom and stereo)i have noticed that the thiner CD,s tend to work on most things but the thicker one,s will cause problems..just a thought.. Pammi 0 #13 January 7, 2002 Yeah, I'm kinda afraid of that myself. Mazda POS :) At least the car runs..lol. I can kinda get it to play, you just have to slap anyone who tries to forward it to the next track, cuz then you're screwed. Oh, and burn it clear down on 1x. Ah well..better then nothing I suppose until I can get a new one!Closing pin jewelry
wildblue 7 #14 January 7, 2002 Could be your burner or your player.. probably the player. I used to have a similar problem with my old car CD player, when I bought a newer one, the problem pretty much went away. It still happens a little bit. Most often when I first make a CD. This might sound odd, but wipe the CD down real good (I usually just wiped it on my jeans a few times) that seems to help with the newly burned CDs. They still skip pretty easy though. Try using a different brand of CD and/pr try having someone else with a CD burner make one for you. If all else fails, go buy one of those Kenwood in-dash CD players that will play MP3s (it can read data CDRs... drool)I ain't happy, I'm feeling gladI got sunshine, in a bag
Pammi 0 #15 January 7, 2002 Big time drool :) If I sell my reserve, I'll do that instead of buying another one. Don't need it anyway....JUST KIDDING!!! :)Closing pin jewelry
flyingferret 0 #16 January 7, 2002 Hey Pammi,Dave has some good advice. But, I just went through the same thing siwht my car. And I could swear it is the type of CD. I tried with to burning programs Sony and Adaptec on one type of CD and the player only played it once out of about 10. I had pretty much given up and said oh well it is too old, when this morning, I pop in two CDs I burned a while back, BAM they work great so. So it is either the color, or like somone said earlier, the thickness.Malachi
Pammi 0 #17 January 8, 2002 Okay, cool...I'm willing to try anything short of buying a new player which is obviously out of the question for now....Thanks so much guys!! I was really bummed about having finally gotten a burner only to not be able to listen to it on those long drives...the main reason to begin with!!Closing pin jewelry
