Jump Shoes, what do you sport?

Recommended Posts

As my buddy was climbing outta the C-182, his foot slipped in between the step and the wheel, where the brake is... his shoe was stuck. He did the freefly jump wearing just one shoe, then me and the other guy did our jump... but the pilot saw the shoe was jammed in there, and had to call the control tower and warn them that he might be making an emergency landing. They asked what the problem was, and he said " a shoe is stuck in wheel"... tower asks "is it a brake shoe?", and he replies "no, it's a Nike"... end of story is he landed ok, the nike popped out, the pilot grabbed it, and returned it to the owner. Nice landing, Jon!

Depends on the mood somedays I feel like an old pair of running shoes, others I feel like wearing my sierra trec hiking boots. They fit like a glove. broke them in climming to the summit if mount St. Helens. Even jumped in a pair of combat boots for fun to break them in.:S I don't reccomend doing it unless your jumping rounds. Anybody know how to flair a T10 charlie.:)Cant we all just get along:)

Well....this is as close as you come. Pick your slip direction. Pull those risers all the way into your chest. Grab as high up as you can. Hold that the last 100 feet or so. When you are about 10-15 feet off the ground slowly let up so you do the last two or three feet with your arms all the way up. This will ensure that you have max canopy inflation at time of touch down. It's not a gurantee but I found that this helped. If you ever jump -1C think of it sorta like a square. Face into the wind. Haul down on both front risers and hold them until your about 10 feet up. Let up slowly. You get that little bit of extra speed that makes your landing somewhat softer.

The guy sews flames to everything that sits still too long...LOL Chairs...clothing...jumpsuits

This is all true. It is nothing for a bunch of us to sit around the loft drinking and sewing up weird shit. Old VS-17 panels are the best for making flames.

rock climbing shoes

A fantastic idea. I have some very nice orange LaSportivas wedgies that I hadn't considered using. I will definitely break them out this spring! Ought to get my ass back down to the climbing gym. My wife and I used to go twice a week but have been complete slackers this past year.

"I could see that from altitude the other weekend..."
Or what's left of it.....It's really weird to look at it and realize it used to look like Hood, Rainer, and all the other mountains around there....
Ain't mother nature a bitch!

K I'm late getting in on this one.
Old beat up New Balance running shoes. Running shoes... run out landings. Nice & bouncy. Plus I wear out the treads running so they heel slide pretty nice as well! ;)

I can't believe this stuff is still going around. It takes a few jumps to for your brain to adjust to the notion of a constant speed fall. You can spend those jumps popping the risers, or you can just do the jumps. Same result either way.
And 8 knots forward speed for a modified T-10? I could believe 8 knots allowable wind, and I could believe 8 knots with a 300-400 pound suspended load, but there's a good reason why folks used to do downwind accuracy -- it was so they could see the target.

Tennie runners usually, preferably ones with some ankle support. I've been through a couple of pairs of Nike Airs; did a bunch of jumps in a pair of red Chuck Taylors, had a pair of LA Gear that had these cool lights in the heels - people usedta comment on that after I'd land from a sunset jump ;), did some jumps in Tevas but got tired of scratching the shit out of my feet on the weeds cuz I couldn't hit the peas....
I just got what have to be the coolest shoes ever - a pair of Vans Classic slip ons in light blue and white checkerboard. Okay, so that dates me a bit.... they were my absolute favorite shoes back in high school but I hadn't seen them in stores in... oh... twenty years or so. I'll let you know how they are for jumping real soon :)pull and flare,
lisa
