Slappie 9 #1 December 28, 2001 Ok everyone I'm going to rant! I've paid my dues to become a member of USPA I've also finished all my student training. Sometime this year they changed the regs for the A. You don't have a test anymore. You have a Yellow Card of things you must do. Your JM/Instructor signs off on your accomplisments as you go. I have recently gotten everything signed off and got the card stamped by a USPA Instructor. From what I have been told by the person who signed me off I do not need to send in the card to get a license number. This card if enough. Basicly it's an A rating. I called USPA yesterday and asked how I get my A number. {remember I've paid my 50$ something already} They told me to mail it in with $20 to receive my number!!!! Now I understand they need money to do things on our behalf and stuff. But I figured my first payment to join got me my A number!!!! I'm thinking of just waiting till I have enough to qualify for my B C or D and do it all at once. This is a total bummer for me. Just to get my name in Parachutist and a number I have to pay ANOTHER $20!!!I CALL BULLSHIT!!!My New Website with 24hr Chat
skybytch 273 #2 December 28, 2001 QuoteI called USPA yesterday and asked how I get my A number. {remember I've paid my 50$ something already} They told me to mail it in with $20 to receive my number!!!! You paid $50 to be a member of USPA for one year. For that you get a year of the magazine, third party liability insurance, your Gold Wings and I think your 12-hour freefall badge for free (when you earn them) and an organization that is working to keep you in the air. Next year you're going to have to pay $50 again if you want to remain a member of USPA. Nowhere on the membership application is it mentioned that your first (or any) license is included with the membership dues. You pay $20 if you want a license number - that's $20 for an A number, $20 for a B number, $20 for a C number and $20 for a D number. It's been this way for the 12 years I've been jumping; amazingly enough the price has not increased once during that time. If you wait 'til you have completed the requirements for all four licenses you can get your D number only for $20 then... if you want four license numbers you're gonna hafta pay $80 regardless of if you apply for them seperately or at the same time. This is all spelled out pretty clearly in the USPA SIM... which you should have or have access to if you've already completed the A license requirements.Bullshit? Obviously skydiving isn't real important to you if you aren't willing to help support the organization that keeps you in the air with the equivalent of one jump ticket, in exchange for which you get your name in a glossy national magazine and a card that allows you to jump at pretty much any dz in the world without having to show your logbook or prove your skills.Skydiving is an expensive sport. Get used to it, cuz things aren't going to get any cheaper. pull and flare, lisa

mikefarmer 0 #15 December 28, 2001 I got my A to travel with, then my C when I wanted to be a JM. Quincy would be the only use for a "B", but they really only require 50 jumps, not a B. Of course I had to get the D so I could be cool at the time. Point being, you can choose how much you want to spend based on what you want to do."It's better to be dead and cool than alive and uncool."-Marlboro Man
mnischalke 0 #16 December 28, 2001 Expedited???I faxed my license last Wednesday and had the real deal in my hot little hands by Saturday. Maybe it's because I am so damn cool or just because I live 15 miles away.mikefly nylon
canopycudler 0 #17 December 28, 2001 I haven't heard about he No test thing.. at our dz.. you have to complete the card and when your done you take the test and THEN get stamped the A lic on it.. You send it in with the USPA and $20 and within a week or so you got your number.I think $50 is cheap for the USPA membership.. damn Parachutist to me is worth a million!! $20.00 for the glory of being a licensed skydiver with number..Priceless!!Peace, Love & Skydiving..Tina
rendezvous 0 #18 December 28, 2001 If you really love Skydiving cut down on some beers and the saturday night flings and you'll surely manage to save up a little for the license.
freeflir29 0 #19 December 28, 2001 "cut down on some beers"Now THAT has to be the worst advice I have ever heard!!!!! "I got some beers....Let's Drink em!!!"Clay

airann 1 #21 December 29, 2001 Slappie, having your name in Parachutist is over rated. (page 14, January Parachutist, 1/2 page)If you dont want to do the license thing dont. Its still $20 a letter, despite the DZ info you got. I got that same incorrect info last yr. One guy with over three thousand jumps, that you may know and flew camera, never even got his A. ~Biggie deal, with Biggie fries~Once upon a time in a far off land, there needed to be a rating system and somebody needed to run it and organize things on behalf of skydivers. We dub thee ~the USPA~Good bad or indifferent, everyone has their opinion, that is the system we have. You can, if you are a member, vote to change things. http://www.AirAnn.comUgly Girl #

skybytch 273 #23 December 29, 2001 QuoteSo, Lisa, you standing for election to the board of the USPA anytime soon? Not in this lifetime.... not even if I could afford all the travel that's required of a BoD member. Political BS doesn't amuse me and BoD members have to deal with a lot of political BS. pull and flare, lisa
jtval 0 #24 December 29, 2001 Skydiving : The biggest hand you'll ever have in your back pocket!"===========================================but tell me that hand doesnt keep yoou smilin'slappie, most ppl feel that way about their licenses(at least, most that i know)but you need a license to jump at a different dz. so its good that you got your "A." if you wanna wiat til your "D" b4 you spend that cash that's up to you but remeber, they changed the req's to get the "A" so they may change the rest.to me $20 wasnt bad. (i was also coming to korea for a year, and wasnt sure that I CANT JUMP HERE) so i wanted the highest USPA license i could show to foreigners. (i havent even unsheathed my "B" and "C" licenses yet but will so in my opinion, it was worth the $20 either way now when you go to a NEW dz you can say look at my brand new NUMBER! Have fun, LIVE FREE, SkydiveJT
